Happy National Great Outdoors Month! In honor of the occasion, some of our staff took a short break at noon for a quick walk to enjoy the great outdoors. Our field staff are in and out of the great outdoors throughout the day (for better or worse, depending on the conditions) as they visit their patients, but members of our office staff enjoyed the opportunity to breathe the fresh air as well. We hope you have opportunities to safely enjoy the great outdoors this month in between the heat and storms!

Our office will be closed on Monday (5/25) in observation of Memorial Day as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Of course our clinicians will still be providing vital, compassionate care to our patients as needed, wherever they call home.

May is Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitment to serving older adults. We're proud to care for many older adults in our community and to help them improve their health, wellness, and maintain their independence.
The 2026 theme of OAM is Champion Your Health, which focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of health aging. Our Home Health services not only help patients recover from injury, illness, and surgery, but also provide education to encourage healthy practices beyond their time receiving care from VNA. We hope to play our part in empowering older adults in our community to lead their healthiest lives!

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! It is the perfect time to show some extra appreciation for our awesome Speech-Language Pathologists! Our SLPs are a crucial part of our Home Health team and do so much to help our patients. They assist patients of all ages with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. Whether they're helping patients communicate effectively or swallow safely, our SLPs are making a difference in their patients' lives every day. Thank you to our SLPs and all of the SLPs in our community and beyond for all that you do!

Happy National Nurses Day and start of National Nurses Week! Nurses are at the heart of our care and have been since the very beginning, when Douglas County Visiting Nurses was founded by an RN who recognized a need within the community for in-home care. RNs like Lyn Rothwell, our founder, and Marceil Lauppe, one of our first nurses and long-time Executive Director, set an exemplary standard for Visiting Nurses that many amazing nurses have upheld over the last 57 years. Thank you to all of our incredible nurses of the past and present for all you've done to care for our patients, for the lives you've touched, and for your commitment to making a difference every day!
Thank you to all of the nurses in our community and beyond for your vital contributions to the healthcare system and for your commitment to caring for others!
