I know you are all busy but I need each and every one of you to contact Senator Roberts regarding the King Amendment to the Farm bill. For those of you that have already done so, please excuse this e-mail.

The Farm Bill recently passed by the House contains a provision proposed by Rep. Steve King (R-IA) that seeks to negate most state and local laws regarding the production or manufacture of agriculture products. Added by voice vote during the House Agriculture Committee’s full committee markup, the King amendment is a radical federal overreach that aims to block state laws protecting farm animals in a way that could also preempt a wide swath of state laws covering everything from child labor to dangerous pesticides to labeling of farm-raised fish to horse slaughter and puppy mills.

The King amendment tries to nullify state laws and strip states of their right to ensure the health and welfare of their citizens, forcing them to authorize the purely local sale and consumption of “any agricultural product” – no matter how dangerous, unethical, environmentally destructive, or otherwise of concern.

Please take 2 minutes out of your day today and send a simple message to Senator Roberts to remove the dangerous King amendment to the Farm Bill and get others to do the same. Thank you all for caring about animals in Kansas.

You can add Minnesota to the list of states gearing up to slaughter wolves.

Congress and the Fish and Wildlife Service's disastrous policy of stripping American gray wolves from the endangered species list state by state continues with the delisting of wolves from the Great Lakes region in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will make it easy for landowners to shoot wolves; it will also take over the state's wolf management plan and is already planning a hunting and trapping season for wolves.

Please share widely -- Congress, the Fish and Wildlife Service and Minnesota need to hear that slaughtering wolves is not OK.
