Did you know your emotional wellbeing can eventually affect your hair, skin, and nails??

When you’re feeling emotionally drained, the goal isn’t to “fix everything” instantly—it’s to reset your nervous system and give yourself some space to recover. Here are 5 practical things that actually help:

1. Do a “mental unload”

Get everything out of your head so it stops circling.
• Write down what’s bothering you (no filter)
• Make a quick list: what I can control vs. what I can’t
• Even 5–10 minutes helps reduce overwhelm

2. Step away and change your environment

Staying in the same space can keep the stress loop going.
• Go for a short walk (even 10 minutes)
• Sit outside or near a window
• Take a break from people, noise, or screens

A small physical reset can create a big emotional shift.

3. Regulate your body (not just your thoughts)

Stress lives in your body, not just your mind.
• Try slow breathing: inhale 4 seconds, exhale 6–8 seconds
• Take a warm shower or wrap up in a blanket
• Stretch your shoulders, neck, or back

This tells your brain: you’re safe enough to relax.

4. Lower your expectations for the day

When you’re drained, pushing harder usually backfires.
• Focus on 1–3 simple tasks only
• Give yourself permission to do the “bare minimum”
• Postpone non-urgent decisions

Protecting your energy is productive.

5. Connect with someone safe (or yourself)

You don’t have to carry everything alone.
• Text or call someone you trust
• Or, spend quiet time doing something comforting (music, journaling, prayer, etc.)
• Even sitting in silence without pressure counts

Connection—external or internal—helps regulate emotions.

This is Jen. She’s been a client of mine for almost four years! When we started, she had an undercut about 4 inches long with 8–10 inches on top. We added a few extensions to help with length, and now we’re so proud of her journey — it’s all her own hair and the length is amazing! 💛
