As the holiday season is upon us, I find myself reflecting on the past year and those who have supported the opening of my own speech therapy private practice. Play-based therapy is using the child’s interests to elicit language. It could be playing outside with a water table, using puzzles, using tape (for example, taping toys that have boo-boos), taking pots and pans to make music and so much more. It’s more than sitting at a table and completing worksheets. It’s fun, engaging and can get a little messy (play-doh, sand, slime, etc.). Let’s have fun!

This is one of my most recommended tips to use in early intervention. Think about all of the language input you’re providing- using pronouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, understanding spatial concepts, quantity concepts, quality concepts, etc.
