Trauma doesn’t always look the way we expect.

It isn’t limited to combat or a single life-changing event. Trauma can result from childhood experiences, unhealthy relationships, loss, incarceration, abuse, or other difficult life experiences—and it affects everyone differently.

At the Eleanor Young Outpatient Clinic (EYOC), we understand that unresolved trauma is often closely connected to substance use. Recovery isn’t just about stopping the use of drugs or alcohol. It’s about understanding what happened, learning healthy ways to cope, and finding a path toward healing.

Gary Lunderman, CASAC Adv, Clinical Director at EYOC, shares how trauma-informed care helps individuals begin that journey.

A simple act of generosity can make a meaningful difference.

Schuyler Inn would like to extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Sherry Karcher and the Karcher family for their generous donation of a refrigerator, blankets, and clothing.

These gifts will directly benefit the families we serve by providing essential resources and added comfort during a challenging time.

Support from community members like the Karcher family helps us create a welcoming, supportive environment where families can focus on rebuilding their lives.

Thank you, Ms. Sherry and the Karcher family, for your compassion and generosity.

PTSD and substance use disorders often intersect in ways that can make recovery more challenging.

Many individuals living with trauma turn to substances as a way to cope with difficult thoughts, emotions, or experiences. That’s why trauma-informed care is an important part of the support provided at Baywood Center.

Our team works with individuals to better understand the relationship between trauma and substance use, develop healthy coping strategies, and connect clients with additional resources when specialized mental health services are needed.

Recovery begins with understanding, support, and the right care at the right time.

Community partnerships help make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Recently, Schuyler Inn Family Shelter welcomed volunteers from bKind, who spent time with families while delivering comfort bags, teddy bears, activity supplies, and other thoughtful gifts for children and parents.

In addition to distributing the comfort bags, volunteers led an arts and crafts activity that gave children an opportunity to create, explore, and simply enjoy being kids. The afternoon was filled with creativity, laughter, and meaningful moments shared between families and volunteers.

We are grateful to Macy, Barbara Rossi, and everyone at bKind for their generosity, compassion, and commitment to supporting families in our community. Their efforts provided not only practical resources, but also comfort, encouragement, and a reminder that our families are supported by people who care.

Thank you, bKind, for helping create a day filled with kindness, connection, and joy.

Last week’s Water Wednesday gave the kids at Schuyler Inn the perfect opportunity to cool off, get outside, and enjoy a little summer fun.

With sprinklers running and water tables set up, the courtyard quickly filled with laughter, splashes, and plenty of energy. On a hot day, simple activities like these can create meaningful moments for children and families alike.

At Schuyler Inn, it’s often the everyday experiences that matter most. Opportunities to play, connect, and simply enjoy being a kid help create a welcoming and supportive environment for the families we serve.

High heat and humidity isn't just a nuisance and make you uncomfortable. Please take advisories seriously, and make sure you, your family, and your pets are safe and cool.

Making connections that matter.

Yesterday, Jessica Perkins and Ashley Spaulding represented the Baywood Center at a community resource fair held at the Marriott in Lake George, helping connect community members with information about recovery services, mental health support, and many other resources available through PYHIT.

Every conversation is an opportunity to help someone find support, learn about available services, or take the first step toward recovery and wellness.

Thank you to Jessica and Ashley for representing not only the Baywood Center, but all of PYHIT and helping raise awareness of the resources available in our community.
