Did you know? Every time our dogs fail to respond to a cue, that can provide valuable insights about a dog's learning process. When we repeat a cue, we miss an important opportunity to identify what the dog may be struggling with.

Perhaps the dog isn't responding because the environment may be too distracting, the cue may not be well established, or the dog may not have generalized the behavior to that specific context.

Repeating the cue therefore shifts the focus away from solving the underlying learning problem. Sure, the repetition temporarily pushes the session forward, but it prevents us from identifying the true training gap.

The repetition also makes it appear as though the dog needed more insistence, which reinforces our repeating behavior, when in reality the focus should be on identifying the underlying problem.
