More2Life
Your choices affect your future!
More2Life is a Youth Development program that partners with parents and the community to increase awareness among youth that their choices affect their futures. We provide culturally relevant programs that
-ENABLE youth to set and achieve their goals, and
-EMPOWER them to build healthy relationships and avoid risky behaviors such as drugs, alcohol, and s*x outside of marriage.

The internet is not a safe place to leave young people unsupervised. That's not fear-mongering, that's fact. Online predators actively target youth. Harmful content is one click away. Cyberbullying can follow kids home. And algorithms are designed to keep engagement high, not to protect wellbeing.
But here's the good news: You don't need to be paranoid or controlling. You need to be aware and involved.
The goal isn't to shield kids from the internet โ it's to prepare them to navigate it safely. That requires your involvement.

Let's be honest โ the statistics are hard to ignore. The average teen spends 7-9+ hours per day on screens, often while multitasking. That's more time on devices than sleeping, eating, or being with family. But before we panic, let's ask ourselves: What are our kids actually doing? Are they connecting with friends? Creating content? Escaping difficult emotions? Gaming? The answer matters because it changes how we respond.
Screen time isn't the enemy โ mindless, unexamined screen time is. Young people need help learning the difference between connection and isolation, entertainment and escape, social engagement and social comparison. This conversation requires vulnerability from us too. How much time do we spend on our phones? What habits are we modeling?
If you work with young people or parent them, this week ask yourself: What am I noticing about their screen time? And what am I willing to change in my own habits first?

This is a timely info session for families who have children home during the summer and have easy access to social media. Everyone is invited! Consider bringing your middle or high school child with you.
While social media is a great connector, it also has some real dangers. In this session, youโll learn how to use social media in a safe and healthy way. Your presenter is from a local organization called More2Life.
In this video, we break down two very different approaches to raising kids.
๐จ The Carpenter: This parenting style tries to measure, control, and assemble the perfect child. It is a highly meticulous approach that relies heavily on controlling the outcome.
๐ป The Gardener: This approach focuses on creating a safe, nurturing environment where a child can naturally flourish. Gardeners provide freedom within clear boundaries and expectations, giving kids a safe space to explore and grow.
It is all about finding that middle ground between being a ""dictator"" and having a completely hands-off, ""I don't care"" attitude. The ideal approach is authoritative parenting, which provides necessary structure and authority while still allowing room for exploration and growth.
Which approach do you lean towards, or do you find yourself somewhere in the middle? Let us know in the comments below! ๐๐ฌ

Are we protecting our kids from the wrong dangers? ๐คฏ
In the latest episode of the Baffled podcast, we unpack a massive parenting paradox: We overprotect our children in the physical world (like stopping them from walking to the park alone), but completely UNDER-protect them in the dangerous virtual world by giving them unrestricted internet access.
Join Jonathan and Jason as they dive deep into "The Great Rewiring" of childhood. We discuss the dramatic transition from a play-based childhood to a phone-based one, the very real chemical reasons (like oxytocin and endorphins) why kids go absolutely "berserk" when their screens are taken away, and the 4 hidden harms of constant screen time.
Plus, we share why forcefully removing distractions and letting your kids be BORED might actually be the greatest gift you can give their developing brains.
Want to know the ultimate strategy to help your teen build critical thinking and resilience? (Hint: It involves giving them more freedom in the physical world and stronger boundaries online).

Watch for:
โ Sudden mood changes
โ Withdrawing from friends or activities
โ Changes in sleep or energy

Early support can make a big difference. When in doubt, check in.

Mind Matters Friday: Letโs make mental health a normal conversation โ not just a crisis conversation.
Youth need to know: โItโs okay to not be okay.โ
Talk openly about emotions at home, in classrooms, and in programs. The more we normalize it, the less stigma they feel asking for help.
Try asking: โHow are you really feeling today?โ
You might be surprised by the answer.
