The Chattaway To Remain Open In St. Pete Under New Ownership: Report

Months after announcing its closure, The Chattaway will remain open in St. Pete under a new ownership team, a report said.

Tiffany Razzano • Jun 15, 2026

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — There’s some good news for those who love The Chattaway.

After announcing in March its impending closure sometime this summer, the beloved restaurant will stay open under new ownership, St. Pete Rising reported.

The family behind the 75-year-old restaurant at 358 22nd Ave. S., St. Pete’s longest-running restaurant, announced that the property was under contract and expected to close once the sale was completed.

They even began planning a yard sale at the restaurant to sell Chattaway memorabilia and decor.

The eatery was established in 1951 by Jillian Frers, who moved here from England.

But now, the iconic restaurant will remain open under the helm of a local ownership group led by real estate investor Cullen Mahoney. The group also includes Ferg’s Sports Bar owner Mark Ferguson and John John Delladonna, who owns Shrimpy’s Waterfront, St. Pete Rising said.

The sale of the property will continue, with closing expected in August.

30,000-sq-ft PGA TOUR Superstore opens in St. Pete this weekend

June 11, 2026 • By Bob Carskadon

The timing for St. Pete’s newest debut couldn’t be better ahead of Father’s Day. St. Pete’s new PGA TOUR Superstore officially opens this Saturday, June 13, at in the Crosswinds Shopping Center at 2020 66th Street.

The gigantic new store is just a hair under 30,000 square feet, occupying the former Bealls Outlet space. With that much room to play with – literally and figuratively – the new superstore is much, much more than just clubs, balls and bags.

The new PGA TOUR Superstore also features multiple high-tech simulators, coastal-inspired golf lifestyle apparel, lessons, club fittings, equipment repair, hitting bays, putting greens, in-house club-making facilities, and even children’s apparel. It’s paradise for those who love golf or want to learn more about it, and as the PGA TOUR’s exclusive retail partner, it “provides customers with access to the same technology and expertise as card-carrying PGA TOUR pros.”

Credit where its due, the new store says it has taken inspiration from St. Pete’s location on the Gulf and the personality of the city. The retail side of the store is more than just country club chic, as they say the store offers “versatile styles designed to move seamlessly from the fairways to downtown Central Ave.”

The store opens at 9 am this Saturday, June 13, and the grand opening festivities include giveaways totaling more than $30,000, as well as activations from local favorites like Gulfport Brewery, TradeWinds Island Resort, and Ferg’s Sports Bar.

The St. Pete PGA TOUR Superstore will be open Monday-Saturday from 9 am – 8 pm, and Sunday from 10 am – 6 pm. Find more grand opening details here.

This tiki boat tour is made to bring your pups, and it supports animal nonprofits

June 9, 2026 • By Bob Carskadon

It has apparently become the year of themed boats in Pinellas County. From a floating fruit shop to a taqueria that pulls up to the sandbar, there’s no shortage of ways to add a little nautical excitement to your beach day. Now, your dog is invited to join, too.

Tiki Tim’s Dog Barge is a tiki boat tour designed specifically for riders to bring their dogs along for the fun. The BYOB pontoon experience operates out of the Jungle Prada Boat Launch (8398 Elbow Ln N) and takes guests into the Gulf and along St. Pete Beach. Each ride is captained by a licensed member of the Tiki Tim’s Dog Barge Team. Thetour boat has been in operation for just over one year.

On the boat, a long bar and table gives humans a place to relax, while the gated railing encircling the boat is reminiscent of a dog park, fake turf lining the boat and all. And to make it even sweeter, a portion of proceeds from each ride is donated to local animal charities.

The tours run $100/hour for up to six people, including dogs. The boat also provides dog toys, leashes in various sizes, harnesses, and dog life jackets in various sizes, which must be worn when the boat is in motion. Humans and dogs alike are welcome to hop out and swim or play on a sandbar as part of the ride.

The experience is highly customizable. You can just cruise the open water, drop anchor at a sandbar for the afternoon, or go exploring on an island. Multiple dogs are allowed at a time, provided they are established to be friendly with each other or in the same family. Dogs need proof of Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccines, and the Leptospirosis vaccine is highly recommended.

Learn more and book a tour here.

Enchant Christmas, the gigantic holiday light experience, returning to The Trop in 2026

June 11, 2026 • By Bob Carskadon

For the first time since 2023, the region’s biggest and wildest holiday light show is returning to St. Pete. Organizers announced that Enchant Christmas is returning to Tropicana Field for the 2026 holiday season, after missing 2024 and 2025 due to hurricane damage at the facility.

Enchant had become an annual favorite before its forced hiatus, and its return to The Trop, like that of the Tampa Bay Rays, is another example of the city’s recovery and resilience. The experience will turn the stadium into a winter wonderland from November 20 through December 27. Tickets are not yet on sale, but will be available here when they are released.

This year’s highlight will be what organizers are calling the world’s biggest Christmas light maze, and the theme for 2026 will be “Night of the Nutcrackers.” In this interactive adventure, the nutcrackers – who are ostensibly the guardians of magic – have gone missing, and maze explorers are challenged to find all eight of them and help restore the holiday magic.

The full display at Enchant, which includes a larger-than-life Christmas tree and a full ice skating rink, features millions of individual lights and takes weeks for their all-hands crew to put together. There is also a full holiday-themed market, as well as themed food and beverage. Those who have been before know how immersive the experience is. Those who have moved to the area since the last Enchant took over The Trop are in for a treat.

Here’s what to expect at Enchant Christmas this year:

• Night of the Nutcrackers maze
• Ice Skating Trail beneath towering light sculptures
• Santa and Mrs. Claus experiences
• Brand new activities
• Live entertainment and festive programming
• Enchant’s Village marketplace and seasonal shopping
• Seasonal food and beverage offerings

“Few places have embraced Enchant the way St. Petersburg has, which is why returning to Tropicana Field means so much to our team,” said Jayson Babel, Senior Vice President of Social House Holiday, the team behind Enchant. “As this beloved venue opens its doors once again, we’re honored to be part of a season that brings people back together through light, wonder, and shared holiday memories. Whether guests are returning to Enchant or experiencing it for the very first time, we can’t wait to welcome them this holiday season.”

Sunshine City Paint Lounge, Art Studio Opening Soon In St. Pete's Edge District

A new Edge District business, Sunshine City Paint, will offer family-friendly art time by day and paint-and-sip classes in the evening.

Tiffany Razzano • Jun 10, 2026

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A new paint-and-sip lounge and art studio is preparing to open in St. Petersburg’s Edge District, with owner Julianne Gioscio aiming for a June debut at 909 Central Ave.

Gioscio, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who moved to St. Petersburg in 2023, described Sunshine City Paint as a locally built concept that combines guided classes with a more casual drop-in experience for all ages.

And it all ties in with her childhood dreams.

“The first thing that I said when I wanted to grow up to be when I was, like, five was an artist,” she told Patch. “So this is kind of bringing it full circle.”

Until now, though, her career has taken a very different path.

Gioscio served five years in the military as an aircraft mechanic, and as a civilian, she continued in that direction, working as an avionics technician for companies like Honeywell.

Eventually, she picked up art again as an adult, but as a hobby at first. Painting was the medium she returned to most easily.

“It was like muscle memory,” Gioscio said.

When the military brought her and her then-husband to the Tampa Bay area, she was excited to discover St. Petersburg, a city known for its arts community.

“It’s a really cute place, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” she said.

She’s long dreamed of one day opening her own business, either in the culinary field or the arts.

Thanks to “some luck and strategy” in the stock market, Gioscio can open her first business, Sunshine City Paint, sooner than planned.

She felt connected with the energy of downtown St. Pete and knew that Central Avenue in the Edge District was the right home for her new business.

“It’s the perfect fit, because there’s just a little bit for everyone. There’s tourists and locals. I feel like this is where they both kind of combine,” Gioscio said.

Sunshine City Paint will offer family-focused programming in the morning and adult-oriented classes later in the day, she said.

The studio’s daytime hours will offer children and their caregivers a creative indoor space, and she plans to keep it affordable enough for repeat visits.

“I want it to be consistent for their schedules, which I think is really important for kids of all ages,” Gioscio said. “My nephew, he has autism, and so consistency is really important for him. So, that’s something I want to offer all families.”

For adults, the business is expected to include guided painting classes, open-canvas time and a small bar area.

She’s spent the past year developing the business, registering it with the state last summer, well before leasing her Edge District space in April.

Gioscio introduced the concept at local markets, connecting with potential customers in person well before she had a brick-and-mortar location.

“I’ve gotten a lot of excitement, which is really encouraging to me,” she said. “I feel like whenever you put yourself out there for anything, you just don’t know how everyone’s gonna react, and sometimes, people are just intimidated by something like this. They’re like, ‘I’m not an artist’ or ‘I don’t know how to paint.’ But that’s not the point, and I’ve seen even when I’m set up at a booth, that people might be anxious when they first sit down with me, but after, they sit back and see what they’ve made, and they have a whole different reaction, a whole different sense of confidence.”

The studio’s opening timeline depends on city permitting, she said. Those interested in learning more about the business and its opening date should follow Sunshine City Paint on social media.

5 reasons to shop for home furnishings locally in Tampa Bay

June 8, 2026 • By Bob Carskadon

As someone who recently moved into a new home, I know two things about furnishing a living space: looking through options is the fun part, while the purchase, delivery and setup are the biggest sources of potential headache. That’s why buying local is always the best choice, and if you go with the right spot, it saves you money, too.

In Tampa, our go-to is Dwell & Company. The locally-owned and operated furniture and home goods store always hits that perfect mix of quality, service and price. Being local is a key reason for all of that. With Dwell & Co, you know what you’re getting, you’re getting it quicker, and they can take care of everything for you, from delivery and setup to free personal design services. These are the five factors that make Dwell & Co our recommendation for anyone shopping for furniture for home or office.

• Take it for a test drive
This is the obvious one, so we’ll lead with this first. You get to see, touch and try out pieces in person, rather than just ordering online and hoping for the best. I’m certainly not the only person who had a long-awaited shipment come in only to assemble it and think, “Huh, this looked better on the website.”

Seeing things in real life, you know exactly what colors, textures, sizes and experiences you’re getting. It’s certainly better than looking at a delivery and trying to figure out who in the world decided that color qualified as “olive.”

• Free design service

One of the most underrated values in all of Tampa Bay is Dwell & Co’s free design service. It’s one of the best deals in town, and it will make your next project look like a million bucks (without costing it). The personally-curated designs are created to match any style, as well as any budget. It’s perfect for new homes, AirBNBs, guest rooms, offices, or any entertaining spaces. Don’t see what you like in the store? They’ll personally source it for you from their dozens of trade vendors – a service typical interior design firms charge thousands for.

The process is led by Dwell & Company’s in-house designers and stagers, who meet with you individually to customize a plan tailored to your exact needs and dreams. To them, curated means that your home is thoughtfully designed around your life – not a one-size-fits-all showroom look. No two projects are ever the same, and their team doesn’t recycle ideas—they listen, assess, and build a plan based on your space, your needs, and your budget.

The best part is that you don’t pay for the service. Dwell & Company provides the expert guidance free of charge, so all you pay for is the furniture you were getting anyway.

• Get high-end, designer looks for less

Another of the great perks is the ability to get high-end pieces at significantly discounted prices. In addition to Dwell & Co’s massive warehouse of brand new, designer, and luxury furniture, the store also offers access to gently used pieces from its luxury staging studio. That allows them to repurpose high-end, gently used pieces that you can take home at up to 80% off retail prices.

With Dwell & Company being local, all those luxury pieces stay in Tampa. Living here, we get to take advantage and come with designer furniture for warehouse prices. Between that and the free design services, Dwell & Co can make your space look ready for Hollywood without breaking the bank.

• Get your stuff fast

For me, the biggest benefit of shopping local is how quickly your pieces arrive. There’s nothing worse than getting excited about a new couch and then not seeing it in your home for another two months. Once you’ve picked something out and paid for it, you want it ASAP.

No matter what you’re in the market for, you won’t have to wait once you’ve made your selections. Dwell & Company has thousands of pieces in its warehouses. There’s no shipping lag time, no lost shipments – just your new furniture being delivered from down the street.

Dwell & Company’s warehouses are local, which means the majority of their pieces are delivered as soon as a delivery team is available to bring them out. It’s faster delivery and shorter lead times than you get at the big box store, and you get the feel-good of shopping local.

• Full service delivery and setup

I’m proud of my friends who went into engineering, carpentry and the like. But there’s a reason I’m a writer and not a mechanic. That makes Dwell & Co’s promise to not only deliver, but also provide full-service setup and trash takeaway in the process, all for one flat fee, so meaningful.

You don’t have to worry about assembly or losing hours of your weekend trying to follow instructions spread across 12 pieces of paper. You don’t even have to worry about breaking down boxes to fit in your recycling. Dwell & Co takes care of it all. Whether you’re handy or not, the stress-free aspect is the big win here. Plus, with professional assembly, you know it’s being done right.

All you have to do is open the door and wave them in.

• Shop local with Dwell & Company

The benefits of shopping local are hard to argue. The service, the price, and the selection are all top notch. Dwell & Company’s personal touches are what make the locally-owned store such a Tampa treasure. They aren’t a big box store answering to corporate. They have roots in the community and a passion for providing the type of friendly and supportive service you get from a neighbor.

“We’re a team of professional stagers—people who design and install full homes in a single day for a living,” Dwell & Co says. “We understand speed, quality, timelines, and emotional impact. And we’re willing to go the extra mile for everyone—from a first-time apartment dweller to a luxury homeowner redesigning their fifth property.”

The promise is five-star service, whether you’re spending $500 or $50,000. And that’s what makes their design services work so well. You can meet with a designer at the store, in your home, or even virtually. Their promise, backed up by hundreds of five-star reviews, is that you won’t just love the furniture – you’ll love the entire experience, from picking out your new pieces all the way to the professional installation.

Gulfport Opens Resident-Only Parking Spaces to the Public

June 4, 2026 by Trei Johnson

On June 2, Gulfport City Council voted unanimously to remove resident-only parking restrictions from part of the city west of Beach Boulevard.

Council approved Ordinance No. 2026-03 on second reading with little discussion. The ordinance repeals the City’s resident-only parking section and allows the City to remove resident-only parking signs in the affected area.

The change follows Mayor Karen Love’s broader downtown parking and traffic proposal, which she presented at the Feb. 3 Gulfport City Council meeting. During that presentation, Love said Gulfport had about 253 restricted resident-only parking spaces west of Beach Boulevard that appeared underused.

The ordinance moves one piece of that larger parking proposal forward.

• Resident Questions Fairness

Council received one e-comment before the vote.

Resident Margarete Tober asked whether all affected properties have front driveway or alley parking. If not, she said, the change could be unfair to residents who rely on street parking near their homes.

Council did not discuss the comment before voting.

The affected area is in the southwest part of the city, west of Beach Boulevard. During the meeting, staff referenced the area around 58th Street South and south of 28th Avenue.

• Part of a Larger Parking Plan

Mayor Love’s Feb. 3 parking proposal included several possible changes for the downtown core. Those ideas included one-way streets, more angled parking, golf cart parking, accessible parking, short-term pickup spaces, bicycle racks, and lower speed limits.

At that meeting, Love said the resident-only parking restrictions dated back to a time when beach parking was metered and no longer reflected current conditions.

The June 2 vote does not enact the full downtown parking plan. Instead, it removes the resident-only parking restriction from the code, allowing those spaces to open to the public.

The ordinance passed unanimously.

• The Gulfport City Council’s next meeting is June 16 at 6 p.m.
