So inspired by these people. Usurp Music Group LLC pulled off another 🔥 night of musical magic that I feel so lucky to have been a part of. Kava Kraze was the perfect setting with awesome acoustics and a very friendly and engaging room. Zekiah, Lexie, Chase you guys are so dope.

I'm curious - What are YOUR thoughts on mashups?

Whether you make music or just enjoy listening, I wanna hear your opinion.

It's so satisfying as a musician when you cover a song and get to feel a new direction for a classic as youre playing it and make it your own. For me it's EVEN MORE exciting when you're playing a song and something clicks in your brain where another song can be tied in perfectly.

I was playing "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood on piano last night and at the end of the chorus a little bit of "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone just kinda slipped out, and I LOVED how Nina's vindicated positivity enhanced Carrie's vengeful anthem. I couldn't stop playing it!

But as an audience member or fellow musician, how do you feel about it? Does it effect the integrity of the original? Is it an enhancement or a bastardization? Is there such a thing as too much artistic liberty?
