. Operate Yard Truck in a safe manner during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded and empty containers. Must be able to back trailers up to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of the dock. Must clean out trailers before or after moving them, either using on-site equipment to wash them inside and out or by sweeping them out with an industrial broom. If the position entails working with refrigerated trailers, yard drivers must monitor and adjust temperature settings for the specific requirements of the individual load.
Daily perform pre- and post-trip inspections on tractors and trailers. Drive and operate vehicle under 10-15mph in and around the plant and storage lot/staging area. Be cognizant of the reality that the operation is a low mileage severe duty function requiring particular attention to preventive maintenance checks and services as well as actual scheduled vehicle maintenance. Must be aware and proactive that operations occur on asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces in a hostile environment often contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires. Responsible for accounting for records involving container numbers, gross weights, tare weights, and net weights on the scale log sheet to include source and type of material.
10. Must function and interact on a daily basis with yard and warehouse personnel and comply with the company’s safety requirements.
Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, warehouse and yard personnel with integrity and respect at all times. Security of valuable commodities and the storage area itself are a major area of concern for the Yard spotter, occasionally requiring guidance from supervisory personnel regarding disposition.

Basic Qualification Requirements
Most employers require yard truck switchers to have a current, Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Yard drivers should possess adequate communication skills in order to understand written and spoken instructions, excellent safety awareness and a sufficient level of physical fitness, as the job involves some manual labor.
-2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience in the last 5 years
