Life moves fast, and our reactions often move even faster.
Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our power to choose.
Proverbs 15:28 reminds us that the mind of the righteous ponders before answering. It is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and find clarity before we engage with the world around us. When we reclaim that space, we choose growth and freedom over constant activation.
You can catch up on the message, The Slow Burn, from our series Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times on our website, YouTube, or the State Street mobile app.

We are living in a system specifically designed to keep us angry.
The outrage economy thrives on our reactions. Every algorithm and news cycle is designed to boost engagement by provoking moral outrage. It has turned our digital and social spaces into a harsh word machine.
When we remain in a constant state of activation, we lose our peace and perspective. We begin to see every disagreement as an attack. But we are not trapped. Between the stimulus and our response, there is a space where we have the power to choose a different path.
We can decide to disconnect from the machine and protect what is happening in our hearts.
Watch the full message, The Slow Burn, to learn how to navigate the outrage economy and discover a better way forward.

Bitterness never actually feels like bitterness from the inside. It feels like wisdom. It feels like realism.
We live in a system designed to keep us activated and angry. When we allow a specific grievance to settle into a permanent outlook, it begins to color every interaction and relationship. From the inside, it looks like we are just being careful. But on the outside, it costs us our peace and our connection to others.
We can choose a different direction. Between stimulus and response, there is a space where our growth and freedom live. We are allowed to disconnect from the outrage machine and choose a different way to see the world.

The original pain was inflicted upon you, but the bitterness we carry is something we are doing to ourselves.
Anger is often a natural response to a specific wound. It is acute and situational. However, when that anger has nowhere to go, it can quietly turn into bitterness: a lens through which we interpret every other part of our lives.
While bitterness often feels like wisdom or realism from the inside, it actually costs us our peace and our ability to heal. We can choose to stop letting our worst experiences define us and instead move in a different direction.

Faith is often misunderstood as merely a list of rules. We tend to focus on what we should avoid instead of where we are headed.
But faith is less about rules and more about direction. It involves moving toward what truly satisfies us. Often, we settle for "cheaper things": temporary fixes that leave us feeling empty.
Jesus offers something different—He calls it living water. It's an invitation to turn away from shame and move toward a life that is full and meaningful.
Our lives are shaped by what we focus on.
Watch the latest Sunday morning message, "Lust and Cheaper Things," to learn how we can find lasting satisfaction.

We often seek satisfaction in places that leave us feeling empty.
Social media approval and performance-driven living may seem like sources of fulfillment, but often they are just counterfeit wells. They promise happiness but leave us craving more.
In our message on Sunday, we learned how to spot these wells and move toward something more meaningful. Our goal is to look beyond the surface and find what truly sustains us.
