We are proud to introduce the Love Notes Project. The Love Notes Project is a collaboration between the Lansing Association for Human Rights (LAHR) and Sometimes Art House (SAH). The Love Notes Project seeks to address the social isolation experienced by LGBTQIA+ folx, BIPOC folx and people living with HIV in particular. Our found and chosen families are often a saving grace for us, and the Love Notes Project will help us show each other that our Family is bigger than we ever could have imagined. You are seen, you are loved - just as you are.
How do you participate? Choose whether you want to send or receive a note. Choose which postcard you want sent. Write your message. We will write it out, sign it, take a photo and text it to you (if you choose that option), add a stamp and pop it in the mailbox. Just want to receive an encouraging note? Fill in your name and mailing address. Done and done!
Love the cards? We do too! Buy more cards and help us raise money for LAHR and SAH by buying sets or individual cards at The Resistance Bookstore when it opens at 515 W. Ionia St. Lansing, MI 48933. Proceeds will be split between the advocacy organizations 50/50 with no profit to the bookstore.
Attached is just ONE of the amazing custom designs created for the project by Sometimes Art House artist, Baz Pugmire.
Sometimes Art House (SAH) is an art collective founded by women artists of color (creators of the postcard art!) to encourage collaboration and self-care in the artistic process. LAHR is proud to announce the introduction of the Tri-County Food, Friends and Connections Program which seeks to address the unique needs faced by individuals 60+ living with HIV who are impacted by social isolation and food shortage. We know that communities already vulnerable to social isolation due to discrimination, and the social and systemic exclusion that stems from it, were already in need of support prior to COVID and now are need of even more intentional action. The Food, Friends and Connections program will be training volunteers to provide culturally competent and informed companionship to those 60+ living with HIV and our community members living with HIV can sign up to receive free meals weekly, participate in social activities with other participants, participate in social time with a volunteer companion or just participate in some of the options.
We are recruiting:
- Participants (aged 60+ living with HIV)
-volunteers to serve as companions
-trainers/partners in the project
We are reaching out to local resource agencies and community partners to help us facilitate monthly in-service trainings for volunteers and supportive sessions for participants. The project was created in collaboration with the Lansing Area AIDS Network (LAAN), the Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) and the RSVP of Ingham, Eaton & Clinton Counties, and the Lansing Association for Human Rights (LAHR).
Thanks again to local artist Douglas Bailey for creating the original art that perfectly captures the mission of the program!
A flier is available below and a tri-fold flier is also available for printing and distribution.
Each flier includes links to applications for opportunities to be a participant in the program or volunteer.
