Mother's Day is just two days away! Make her morning extra special with these Michigan apple roses:
Ingredients:
- Two Michigan apples
- Lemon juice
- One sheet of puff pastry
- Your mom’s favorite jam
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Steps:
- Slice your apples into thin slices and add them to a bowl with water and lemon juice
- Microwave for 4-5 minutes until the apples are very soft (they will be hot, be careful!)
- Roll out your puff pastry sheet and cut into 3 equal strips
- Spread your jam
- Layer on the apple slices, slightly overlapping
- Roll into a tight rose
- Pop into a greased muffin tin
- Bake at 350 for 25 minutes
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar
- Enjoy!

Thank you to a grower in the west central region (north of the Fruit Ridge) for sending these in! It was 53 degrees in his orchard when this was taken, so it’s tough to find bees out doing their important pollinating work. Typically, bees don’t work effectively below 65 degrees Fahrenheit – like so many of us, they are most effective when outdoor temperatures are between 65 and 75 degrees.
Meanwhile near Lowell, a grower was able to find bees hard at work despite it being only 56 degrees!
