Brookhaven Siberians

erian kittens for some time, and there were no Siberian Breeders near me. We ended up going to visit a breeder in FL on Spring Break and my chronically allergic son sat in a closed cattery with 27 cats and kittens for over 30 minutes and didn't sniffle a single time. This is a kid who sneezes blood around regular cats. I immediately started saving for our first Siberian kitten and looking everywhere to find a closer reputable breeder. I settled on a woman in a nearby State who had been breeding for many years. She is no longer breeding now, but was a fount of information for me. I remember when I got my first kitten from her. She asked me then if I wanted breeding rights for her. My very rude and immediate impulsive response was "God no! Who in their right mind would want to breed cats?!" Clearly, I had forgotten who I was speaking to. She was very graceful about it when I called her three weeks later to tell her that I had changed my mind. I told her that everyone should have a Siberian cat, and since there were no other Siberian catteries open in MI, I sent her a check for the difference in pricing between a pet and breeding kitten, and she sent me the paperwork for my first Queen and agreed to be my Mentor. It's been a wild ride ever since. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, while I learned to navigate all that was involved in being a good breeder. I thought maybe I would do this for a few years to help establish this amazing breed in Michigan--but it's been so wonderful to see so many happy faces and get the regular updated pics and vids of these beautiful kitties. Every year, I think this will be my last year...and then my Brookhaven families talk me out of retirement again and again. My daughter was 6 years old when I got us our first Siberian. She will be 22 this year.
