Dr. Karen Becker and Rodney Habib have been a integral part of my journey of raising my puppers and kitters holistically.

I had been feeding a raw diet for years and watching Dr. Becker's videos for guidance. There wasn't much information out on the internet 15 years ago... and the question was "who could I trust?" Until I found Dr. Becker!

🐕 Links to their pages are above

🐩 Check them out for a wealth of information and guidance

🐈 And... functional mushrooms are amazing for our pets!!!!

Systems That Determine Senior Dog Health 🧠

As dogs age, the most common conditions we see - arthritis, cognitive decline, anxiety, digestive issues - don’t happen randomly. They’re driven by underlying biological processes:
• Chronic low-grade inflammation
• Oxidative stress
• Immune dysregulation
• Mitochondrial (cellular energy) decline
• Microbiome imbalance

Protect the systems, and you influence the outcome. That’s why it’s important to focus on:
🐕 Mobility (inflammation & joint support)
🧠 Mind (brain health & emotional wellbeing)
⚡️ Energy (mitochondrial support & systemic vitality)
🦠 Gut (microbiome & immune resilience)

🍄‍🟫Functional mushrooms studied for these pathways include: Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail (beta-glucans), and Chaga.

And these changes don’t suddenly appear in the senior years. Immune balance, mitochondrial function, and microbiome resilience are shaped early in life, meaning support can matter from puppyhood through the golden years. Healthy aging doesn’t start at seven.

Join us today at 12pm EST on the Inside Scoop as Dr. Rob Silver and Lee Carroll discuss the best mushrooms to support your senior dog, at every age.

And on the flip side.... a healthy and strong immune system starts in the gut!

A new peer-reviewed, first-of-its-kind study found that dogs with atopic dermatitis (skin allergies) have significantly lower levels of all three key short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs): acetate, propionate, and butyrate, compared to healthy dogs.🦠 These gut-derived compounds are produced by beneficial bacteria and play a critical role in protecting the gut lining, balancing the immune system, and reducing inflammation. Lower SCFA levels suggest that dogs with allergic skin disease may have an altered gut environment that produces fewer of these protective compounds.

Similar patterns are seen in people with atopic dermatitis (eczema), where reduced SCFAs are common and may even help predict disease development. One of SCFAs’ most important functions is nourishing the cells that line the gut, helping maintain a strong intestinal barrier and reducing the risk of unwanted compounds leaking into the bloodstream. Without adequate SCFA-producing bacteria, overall gut, immune, and skin health can suffer.

Feeding dogs minimally processed, high-fiber foods, resistant starches, and targeted probiotics or prebiotics can help beneficial bacteria thrive and increase SCFA production. That’s why Dr. Becker developed PRIMITIVE PROBIOTICS™—a science-driven approach to supporting your dog’s microbiome using specific strains, including Lactobacillus species and Bifidobacterium bifidum, that help contribute to SCFA production and a healthier, more resilient gut.
