Every September, Michigan Corn joins partners across the country to recognize National Farm Safety and Health Week and raise awareness about the safety and well-being of those who work in agriculture.

Throughout the week, AgriSafe will host webinars focused on reducing risks on the farm and keeping farmers, families and agricultural workers healthy. Topics range from equipment and roadway safety to mental health and overall wellness.

Farming is demanding work, and safety matters everywhere: in the field, on the road, around equipment and at home.

Michigan Corn growers and staff were in Washington, D.C., this week making sure Michigan farmers have a voice in the decisions being made on Capitol Hill.

They joined corn growers from across the country to advocate for priorities important to farmers, including passage of a new Farm Bill and year-round E15. The group also pushed for permanently lifting countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizers, greater transparency in fertilizer markets and expanded opportunities for new corn markets through H.R. 8137.

There was movement on one of those priorities Wednesday. The Senate Agriculture Committee advanced the Agricultural Act of 2026, commonly known as the Farm Bill, on a 12-11 party-line vote. The legislation now heads to the full Senate, though the timing of a floor vote remains uncertain.

The Senate proposal also includes authorization for year-round E15 sales, an important market opportunity for corn growers.

Michigan Corn will continue working with lawmakers in Washington to advocate for policies that strengthen farms, expand markets and support the future of Michigan agriculture.
