Michigan is continuing to see success in recidivism and offender success. Professional and business entities across Michigan are working with the Department of Corrections to help previously incarcerated citizens make it back and achieve success.
Michigan has dramatically lowered the rate of inmates returning to prison | Bridge Michigan The state prison recidivism rate has fallen sharply over two decades, attributed to policy reforms, falling crime and more intensive job training. But many former inmates still struggle for jobs and housing and wind up back behind bars.

What do you think of the new Correctional Officer Physical Aptitude Test for MDOC? It looks like a vastly improved test over the old situps, pushups and steps. Anyone remember "Big Bertha" an 11 3/4 step that was definitely a shin-killer if you missed a step!

Interesting data from the MDOC. the pervasive nature of COVID-19 infections inside the prison system is astounding, with both prisoners and staff being significantly impacted. Over 50% of prisoners and about 20% of staff have been infected based on tests conducted by the department. Over 100 prisoners and four department staff have died as a result of the virus. Some prisons are approaching an infection rate near 80%.

Louisiana has been hit with COVID-19 pretty hard. Over the weekend, Louisiana DOC lost Warden Sandy McCain and the medical officer Dr. Casey McVea. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and coworkers at Raymond LaBorde Correctional Center.

Michigan is not alone in the sad abundance of staff suicides. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and agencies across the country are getting hit too. It makes Thanksgiving all that much more important.
