Voices from the front lines: Why Lansing 360 Matters
Lansing 360 is more than a meeting—it's a collaborative space where community leaders, service providers, law enforcement, educators, and residents come together to solve problems, share information, and build a safer, stronger Lansing.
These testimonials come from the people on the front lines doing the work every day. Their voices reflect the value of collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to our community. You too can join this effort every Wednesday 12pm-1pm, in person at Reo Elementary, or Via Zoom at the link below.

The Lansing Empowerment Network has been working at the grassroots level for about two years, bringing together community members, activists, and law enforcement through its weekly Lansing 360 meetings to identify gaps and coordinate action across the city.
Most recently, the network unveiled its Critical Incident Community Planned Response (CI-CPR) — a streamlined protocol assigning zone leaders across 10 city neighborhoods so that when a shooting occurs, families receive immediate support with resources like food, transportation, and trauma care.
The Lansing 360 model itself is built on the DOJ-recognized Omaha 360 framework, a nationally respected community-based violence intervention approach.
The data makes clear this isn't the result of any single program — it's Advance Peace's fellowship work, the Empowerment Network's weekly collaboration, the Youth Gun Court, city leadership, survivor advocates, Gun violence prevention groups, School district staff, and researchers all pulling in the same direction. It's also important to note that these are people represented in this graph, these are not just numbers.
Even one less victim of Gun Violence is a win... Don't think so? Look your loved one in the face today when you get home, and imagine they could've accounted for one more Red dot on this chart, then think about how you see these declines.

Together, we're building a stronger Lansing.
📚✨ Lansing Empowerment Network – Cradle to Career📚
At LEN, our Cradle to Career Education Collaborative is about walking with our kids and families every step of the way — from early childhood, through school, and into meaningful careers right here in Lansing. This is about alignment, accountability, and making sure no child falls through the cracks.
👉 We’re collaborating TOMORROW at 6:00 pm at Reo to continue building this work, and we want community voices at the table — parents, educators, nonprofit leaders, mentors, advocates, and anyone who cares about Lansing’s future.
If you’ve ever asked:
• How do we better support our kids?
• How do we connect education to real opportunity?
• How do we work together instead of in silos?
This meeting is for you.
If you can, please bring a device to the meeting so that we can crowd-source school and community partners that we want to have at the table. Don't worry if you don't have or can’t bring a device; we can share!

The Lansing Empowerment Network (LEN) invites the community to join us for our next Community Meeting on Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
This meeting will give residents an opportunity to hear directly from LPD Chief Backus regarding the collection, tracking, and reporting of gun violence data in Lansing, along with broader crime trends impacting our community.
Chief Backus will also be available to answer questions directly from community members in an open discussion format about any other topic.
As conversations around public safety continue, we believe transparency, communication, and community engagement are critical. This is an opportunity for residents to ask questions, gain clarity on the data, and be part of the discussion around violence prevention and public safety in Lansing.

The numbers matter. The collaboration matters. The work matters.
Since the launch of Lansing 360 and the broader efforts of the Lansing Empowerment Network in 2023, Lansing has seen significant reductions in gun violence according to Lansing Police Department data:
• Confirmed shooting incidents down nearly 45%
• Shots fired calls down over 29%
• Non-fatal shootings down nearly 30%
• Fatal shootings down 30%
This progress did not happen because of one person or one organization. It happened because community members, intervention workers, residents, law enforcement, schools, hospitals, nonprofits, faith leaders, businesses, and local partners have continued showing up week after week to do the hard work together.
Through initiatives like:
• Lansing 360
• CI-CPR (Critical Incident Community Planned Response)
• Step Up Lansing
• Economic Development Advisory Table
• Cradle 2 Career conversations
• Youth and neighborhood engagement efforts
…we are working not only on intervention, but also on prevention and long-term upstream solutions involving housing, education, economic opportunity, mentorship, and built environment improvements.
There is still work to do. Every shooting is one too many. But the data shows that coordinated community action can make a real difference.
The work continues.
