Spoiler candidates. Vote-splitting. Strategic voting.

We hear these terms so often that they've started to feel like a normal part of elections.

They're not.

California's recent primary sparked another round of spoiler concerns—but California doesn't use Ranked Choice Voting. It uses a top-two primary system.

Ranked Choice Voting lets voters support their favorite candidate without worrying they'll help elect their least favorite.

Michigan deserves elections where voters can vote their hopes, not their fears.

Ranked choice voting is working in Maine. It can work everywhere else too - Salon.com 06/12/2026

Maine continues to show why Ranked Choice Voting works.

In crowded elections, voters don't have to worry about spoilers or vote-splitting. Candidates are encouraged to reach beyond their base and earn support from a broader coalition of voters. And instead of electing winners with only a fraction of the vote, Ranked Choice Voting ensures candidates must earn majority support.

After multiple election cycles, Ranked Choice Voting has become a normal and successful part of elections in Maine and voters are seeing the benefits.

Michigan deserves those same benefits.

More voice. More choice. Majority winners. Elections where voters can vote their hopes instead of their fears.

If this election were taking place in Michigan, a candidate could win with just under 27% of the vote while 73% of voters preferred someone else.

Ranked Choice Voting gives voters the freedom to rank candidates in order of preference, allows more candidates to run without spoiler concerns, and helps ensure winners have majority support.

More voice. More choice. Better representation.

What an incredible day at Motor City Pride!

Huge thanks to all of the amazing volunteers who marched in the parade, talked with voters, and handed out information about Ranked Choice Voting throughout the day.

One of the best parts was hearing so many conversations about how Ranked Choice Voting helps create better representation by giving voters more voice, more choice, and helping ensure elected leaders reflect broad community support.

Proud to keep growing this movement across Michigan — and if you want to help bring better elections to Michigan, we’d love to have you join us as a volunteer at rankmivote.org/volunteer.
