What a great Saturday. The Senior Healthy Aging Fair was fantastic. We gave away more than 100 bags in 15 minutes. Great speakers. Great informational booths and fantastic treats and coffee from Flour Child Bakery. I even had my mom, my sister Denise, my husband Bruce and my oldest fun friends Lisa and Brian stop by. I appreciate all the kind words and the time you spent with us today. Special thanks to Jocelyn, Yvonne and Maggie for putting together a great event to honor our seniors.

Congratulations to our May Small Business of the Month, Get Em and Go Plus More, LLC. Get Em and Go Plus More offers wheelchair and ambulatory transportation for the Greater Lansing area.
To quote their nominator, "As a critical provider of non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) based in Grand Ledge, this company serves as a vital lifeline for our residents, particularly those in rural areas who face significant barriers to accessing essential healthcare.
For the past five years, Rebecca ("Becky") has been a cornerstone of the Grand Ledge community, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to service through her active leadership in the Grand Ledge Rotary Club and the Grand Ledge Area Chamber of Commerce. Her dedication extends into the school district, where she consistently supports our local students and families.
What really sets Get 'em and Go Plus More, LLC apart is the compassion and professionalism Rebecca brings to every ride. With over a decade of medical experience, including 5 years in intensive care, she ensures that individuals with mobility challenges, whether using wheelchairs or walkers, can reach medical appointments and social activities with dignity and safety. We live in an age where reliable transportation is often the only thing standing between a patient and their care. Rebecca's specialized service is not just a convenience; it is a necessity for the health and vitality of Eaton County."
Congratulations to Becky on behalf of Get Em and Go Plus More on this recognition! Thank you for what you do to support our Eaton County residents.

To quote her nominator, "She is kind, respectful, and teaches the whole child, not just academics. She creates a safe space for her students."
Thank you, Kailey, for all that you do to support your students, and congratulations again on this recognition!

I often think how fortunate I am to represent such a diverse district. Last night I celebrated one of our youth advisory council member’s graduation and then decided to drive through the rural part of our district. I drove past some of my favorite farms. It’s such a beautiful sight to see the acres and acres of new growth. Farming is Michigan’s second largest industry and arguably one of the most important as they grow the food we eat.
It was a beautiful night and I stopped by my son and daughter-in-law’s mini farm to see my brand new grandson. Blessings all around us.

Also last week, I met with Tammi from Nutrition Zone to present the March Small Business of the Month award. This is such a cool spot in the Eaton Rapids community, and I especially enjoyed their puzzles and quilts. Congratulations again, and thank you to Nutrition Zone for all of your community outreach and support!

Last Friday after my coffee hour in Eaton Rapids, I presented the April Teacher of the Month award to Tiffani Lyon (Eaton RESA).
Tiffani, it was great to meet you, your colleagues, and your students. Your hard work and dedication as an educator and leader are very appreciated and deserving of recognition. Thank you for what you do every day for your students and the entire Eaton County community.

I spoke at the Older Michiganians Day event this week hosted by the Tri-County Office on Aging and the Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan on the Capitol lawn. While it was very cold outside, there was still a fantastic turnout of people gathered to advocate for the issues that matter most to older adults, caregivers and families.
In my own work as a state representative, I sponsored and passed the bill to repeal the retirement tax in our state, helped negotiate a state budget that supports home and community-based services, brought home funding for the new Delta Township Senior Center, voted to continue funding for Meals on Wheels, and raised wages for direct care workers as the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee last term. In addition, I also host my annual Healthy Aging Fair every spring to connect constituents with the community resources available to them.
Now more than ever, Michigan’s seniors need our support. I am committed to fighting for the policies that protect seniors’ finances, health, community and access to care. Thank you again for having me as a guest speaker!
