The Michigan Autism Insurance Reform Coalition (MAIRC) is committed to ensuring that every autistic child in Michigan has access to the care they need and deserve. MAIRC is an ad-hoc coalition of family members, activists and concerned citizens who believe the time has come for Michigan to join a majority of states and pass legislation to reform Michigan insurance law to end discrimination against children with autism.

There is no doubt that police, prosecutors and the entire criminal justice system needs considerably more education and training when it comes to autism. Kudos to the Autism Alliance of Michigan for efforts in this regard, but more needs to be done.

Today's arbitrary and capricious decision rejecting the addition of autism to the list of qualifying conditions by the Director of LARA ignoring the recommendation of his own panel points out the need for continued vigilance. This decision is a travesty for Michigan families dealing the effects of autism on a daily basis.

If you have ever taken an autistic child to Disney World you know how special it is for them. Few experiences can compare. But now - because of the despicable acts of a few - Disney has destroyed the system that for years has made the experience possible for many of us. Please contact Disney. Ask them to reconsider. This is just such a shame.
