Lansing based advocacy for peace and justice in Palestine

Join us on Saturday, January 17 for a panel with Nida Abu Baker on the Holy Land 5 🇵🇸🗝️
⏰ Jan 17 @ 2 pm
📍Sanctuary @ Fountain St Church
Nida Abu Baker is the daughter of Palestinian political prisoner and member of the HLF 5, Shukri Abu Baker. Nida is an activist and writter advocating for the struggle of Palestinian political prisoners. Shukri and Ghassan Elashi of the HLF 5 remain unjustly incarcerated, serving their 18th year in prison for the crime of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
While Gaza remains under siege and the Zionist occupation expands its attacks on the West Bank and Lebanon, it is imperative that we amplify the voices of our political prisoners from Beaumont Texas to occupied Palestine. Our prisoners bear the brunt of state repression and their sacrifices must drive our movement forward🔥⛓️‍💥

Michigan Divest delivered a statement to the State of Michigan Investment Board commending the Michigan Treasury for their decision to decline to reinvest public pension and taxpayer funds in Isr**l Bonds.
Lansing for Palestine has been proud to be involved with the Michigan Divest coalition throughout this campaign. Michigan Divest will continue to monitor the State of Michigan Retirement System to ensure that taxpayer funds are never invested in isr**li government bonds so long as the genoc*de, aparthe*d, and illegal occupation in 🍉 continues.

DIVESTMENT VICTORY! The Michigan Treasury has divested all directly held Israel Bonds from the State of Michigan Retirement System (SMRS), which manages $115B for over 500,000 public employees, one of the largest retirement systems in the country. This massive win follows a year-long campaign by Michigan residents, public employees, and over 50 supporting organizations, of which JVP was honored to stand and organize alongside. Supported by union resolutions and public pressure, Michigan Divest authored a petition in October with over 2200 signatures to the Michigan Treasury demanding non-reinvestment.
Israel Bonds are loans from individuals and institutions to the Israeli treasury, making up to 25% of Israel’s foreign debt and significantly supporting Israel’s economy. Divesting from these bonds would disrupt the flow of funds to the Israeli government, interrupting “business as usual” — including the business of Israel’s apartheid regime and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
SMRS has effectively ended a 30-year relationship with Israel Bonds, responding to community activists’ campaign. It is incredible news that financial officers agree with concerned Michiganians: risky, poor-performing, and inflexible Israel Bonds are not a good investment for our communities.
This is a massive win that comes as part of a wave of decisions by states across the US to divest or not re-invest in Israel Bonds. We will continue to send a clear message to our political leaders that we will no longer tolerate their use of Israel Bonds as an investment. Now more than ever, backing Israel Bonds, and the violence their economy sustains, is not just a moral failure but a financial one as well.

Join us alongside Michigan Divest at the next State of Michigan Investment Board meeting on June 25th to demand the Board divest public employee and teacher retirements from Isr**l bonds and genoc*de!
For 9 months, we have been building this divestment movement together and pressuring the Michigan Treasury to divest taxpayer and pension funds from a $10 million Isr**l bond held in the State of Michigan Retirement System (SMRS).
This bond matures November 2025, which means there are only TWO more quarterly Board meetings before the Treasury makes a decision to reinvest this bond in another Isr**li government bond or not.
Divestment is attainable, but we need you. Michigan residents, taxpayers, public employees and retirees—make your voice heard. Join us in demanding NO MORE BONDS.

Peace Education Center Statement PEC strongly condemns the recent FBI and Michigan State Police raids targeting students who have protested the war in Gaza. These actions appear intended to intimidate and silence peaceful dissent. We call for accountability and reaffirm the right to protest.
