{UPDATED POST ABOVE}

[THU 10:40PM] The line of storms now runs from Williamston City Hall to Dansville to Leslie and continues to move to the east. Lansing's airport hit 51mph and Mason's 37mph, and we're starting to see trees and powerlines being taken down resulting in some power outages.

Continue to monitor over the next half-hour as the system progresses through the southeast part of the county. The Lansing area and northwest part of Ingham County is cleared from the strongest winds.

06/12/2026

A few reminders while we await potential severe weather tonight:

If Ingham County is under a Tornado Warning, the outdoor warning sirens will be sounded in that part of the county. If the tornado is confirmed, those sirens will be continually sounded while the threat continues.

If winds greater than 75mph are observed or expected, we will also sound the sirens. Those can cause more damage than a low-end tornado!

I will try to answer questions as best I can, but in the thick of things that may not happen in a timely manner. Please put them in a post - direct messaging is hard to get to when it's busy. Also when a post is no longer valid, we disable commenting on it just to avoid confusion because Facebook assumes it must be active and shows it randomly on timelines.

Find a trusted weather app. Sign up for our RAVE/Smart911 notices to get text and email warnings. Use a NOAA Weather Radio. Do NOT rely on OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS if you are indoors!

{UPDATED POST ABOVE}

[THU 10:20PM] A line of storms with torrential rain and gusty winds is just moving into Ingham County at this time. While the weather radar previously showed signs of a possible tornado, those signals have weakened for now. That does NOT mean we are in the clear as these can sometimes spin up in a hurry - continue to monitor over the next hour!

🚨 Severe Weather Alert for Tonight into Early Tomorrow 🌩️πŸŒͺ️🌧️
We are monitoring a potentially significant severe weather event expected to impact the Lansing area tonight into early tomorrow morning. Current forecasts indicate a risk for strong to severe storms, with the greatest concern occurring overnight when visibility is lower and response times may be slower. If storms track directly over or remain in the Lansing area, localized rainfall totals could reach up to 3 inches, increasing the risk of flooding. Saturated ground will also lead to faster runoff and standing water concerns.

What we are watching:
⏰ Timing: 7:00 PM through 4:00 AM
πŸ’¨ Damaging winds: Up to 75+ mph
πŸŒͺ️ Tornado potential: The warm & cool air mixing plus the high winds
🧊 Large hail: Up to 2 inches
🌊 Flooding concerns: Urban and low-lying area flooding likely overnight

Possible impacts:
πŸ”Œ Power outages
🌳 Downed trees
🚧 Road closures
πŸŒ™ Increased overnight risk to the public due to darkness and reduced visibility

Please take time now to prepare:
βœ… Have multiple ways to receive warnings
βœ… Review your tornado safety plan
βœ… Avoid flooded roadways overnight
βœ… Be ready to act quickly if warnings are issued

We will continue to share updates through social media and opt-in RAVE alerts as conditions develop.
