The way that we govern today will shape whether or not the next few generations of Michiganders are left fighting to survive, or given the chance to thrive.

Basic needs like food, healthcare, and housing shouldn’t be up for debate in the “richest country in the world”.

I was honored to stand with my colleagues and the We The People Coalition as we committed ourselves to fighting for what matters most – the people.

This week we celebrated the return of the rapids to the Grand River! I am so excited to watch as families and new generations begin to discover all the amazing natural resources that we have right here at home.

Thank you to all the amazing partners who have been working to make this a reality!

The American Planning Association National Conference 2026 was held in Detroit Michigan and it was an honor to be a part of the conversation.

The panel I joined included policy experts, municipal leaders from across the country, and legal experts.

We discussed local zoning and the Housing Readiness Package. The biggest takeaway that I had from the other panel members was that housing and the zoning discussion are a joint effort.

Thank you a million times over to the individual municipalities and local leaders who have sat down to talk about the Housing Readiness Package and who have given real feedback. You are appreciated and even when we don’t agree I am humbled to put people first as we work together!

Michiganders are feeling the pressure of rising costs every day—from utility bills and health care expenses to car insurance and housing costs.

Thank you to the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and Pyramid Scheme for inviting me to join the "Our Bills Are Too Damn High" summit and for creating space for community members to share their experiences and priorities. These conversations are important because behind every bill and budget decision are real people trying to make ends meet.

Families deserve affordable, reliable services and an economy that works for them. I will continue listening, advocating, and fighting for policies that lower costs and help Michigan families thrive.

Lids for Kids is one of my favorite events because it brings the community together and signals that summer is close by!

Talking to families about bike safety is so important. Sinas Dramis gives out hundreds of free helmets each year, and some very lucky kids also go home with brand-new bikes. Thank you to Sinas Dramis Law Firm for allowing me to join you for the bike giveaway and for coming to the Garfield Park neighborhood each year for this awesome event!

It was great welcoming SEIU to my office.

SEIU’s work is rooted in the belief that every worker deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to build a good life for themselves and their families.

It’s been an honor to work alongside them. I am grateful for the conversation and for all they do to advocate for working people across our communities!

It was an honor to present a tribute recognizing Charles Hudson III for 50 years of service to this community and membership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Five decades of leadership, service, and commitment to community is something truly worth celebrating. Thank you for giving of yourself and your time to make this place we call home better!

It was a joy to visit the Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center.

I was BLOWN AWAY by the students who allowed me to join a reading activity for kindergartners, and by the 3rd graders who explained to me policy they have been working on. My heart was bursting.

Thank you to the staff, students, and families for welcoming me into your school community and for all you do to support our young learners.

Last year I heard loud and clear from our community that people were struggling. They had questions about everything happening in our country, and they were missing spaces to gather and just be together.

This birthed my Sunday Dinner & Dialogue series.

This month it was a pleasure to partner with Messiah Baptist Church for dinner and to have a robust conversation about the Voting Rights Act.

The truth is over the past 15yrs the Supreme Court has dismantled the VRA and I appreciate Rev. Smith for understanding how important this conversation is. We talked about the history of the act, rulings the Supreme Court has made to dismantle it, and how it has directly impacted the right for Black people to vote.

Thank you to everyone that attended and to everyone that committed to stay engaged and fight for our rights!

See you at dinner in August!
