Toured the Whitney Farmstead today, which is a sustainable pasture beef farm. Hosts were Senator Sue Shink, the ASPCA and the State Innovation Exchange. Intensive rotational grazing builds soil health and moisture absorption. These farms are critical to Michigan's long-term food security and the health and sustainability of our farming system. And I got to pet a cow!

Sterling Heights voices opposition to state's property tax bills 06/04/2026

Earlier this week, the Sterling Heights City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the recent House Republican property tax proposal.

During the meeting, the city’s finance and budget director shared that eliminating the personal property tax could cost Sterling Heights an estimated $4.3 million in annual revenue. That’s funding that supports our schools, road improvements, and essential emergency services. At this time, there is no plan in place to replace that lost revenue.

As your State Representative, I believe we can and should pursue meaningful tax relief — especially as costs continue to rise for families across our community. But proposals that come at the expense of public safety, education, and local infrastructure are not the solution.

I’m grateful to the Sterling Heights City Council for standing up for residents and highlighting the real impact this proposal could have on our community. I remain committed to working toward solutions that lower costs while protecting the services our residents rely on every day.

Very proud, and totally surprised to have received the Board of Directors award. I worked with Traci Smith to protect against Michigan DHHS efforts to privatize mental health services.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our 2026 Mental Health Matters Awards last week! We are overwhelmed by the display of togetherness in this fight to improve mental health and access to quality support across our community.

Shoutout to our nine Mental Health Champions on their awards – thank you for all that you do!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives defending our freedom. Their sacrifice is a meaningful reminder of the cost of liberty and the service it takes to protect it.

We are grateful for their courage and for the families who continue to carry their memory forward each day.

Michigan’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base is officially moving forward with critical upgrades as it prepares for its new F-15EX fighter mission. With the Michigan Senate’s approval of a $152 million supplemental budget, following earlier action in the House, this funding will support essential runway and taxiway improvements to ensure Selfridge remains mission-ready for years to come.

I was proud to support this investment, and I will always stand up for Selfridge. The base plays a vital role right here in our district, not only in strengthening our national defense, but also in supporting good-paying jobs and driving economic activity throughout our community.

This is a significant step forward in securing the long-term future of Selfridge and keeping Macomb County at the forefront of military readiness and innovation.

Last week I was proud to speak on a resolution recognizing the impact of arts for health initiatives and their role in improving mental health outcomes.

Across our state and country, too many people are facing challenges with anxiety, depression, and trauma. This resolution highlights how access to the arts can serve as a powerful tool to support emotional well-being, reduce isolation, and provide meaningful outlets for healing and connection.

Programs rooted in creativity and community can make a real difference, especially when they are accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Spent Armed Forces Day at Selfridge while celebrating A Salute to Veterans weekend. There was a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The Plymouth Fife and Drums Corps performed to great applause. And there were re-enactors from the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror. Proud to be an American!
