🏳️‍🌈 What if there was a place where you could finally be your full self?

The Salus Center was created from one person's search for a community where every part of their identity could belong. The story is inspiring—and more relevant than ever.

Salus Center History:

The Rev. Phiwa Langeni (he/they) is the founder and former Executive Director of the Salus Center.

In 2017, Phiwa opened the Salus Center at 624 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912, moved it to its current location in 2018, and served the Center as Executive Director until the summer of 2020. Under Phiwa’s stewardship, more than 17 social and support groups were formed and countless connections were made to support local q***r and trans individuals. Phiwa ushered in a spirit of connection to the Lansing LGBTQIA+ community and planted the seeds for a robust and inclusive future.

Phiwa has entrusted Salus Center to the LGBTQIA+ community of Lansing. We all must work together with love and humility in order to continue to support this incredible community.

🙌🙌🙌

🎉Congratulations to our June Business of the Month, the Salus Center!

The Salus Center has served as Lansing’s LGBTQ+ community center since opening in 2017. Located at 408 S. Washington Square, the nonprofit provides peer support groups, community events, volunteer opportunities, and connections to local resources and services.

This May, Salus once again brought the community together for its annual Prom event — a celebration designed to give everyone a safe, inclusive place to connect, dress up, and have fun. With this year’s “Carnival Extravaganza” theme, the evening was filled with vibrant energy, playful performances, and unforgettable moments shared among friends old and new.

✨ Four words. One giant impact.

"I feel so seen."
A young person whispered those words after receiving support—and honestly, we're still thinking about it. 💜

If you've ever wanted proof that kindness changes lives, this story is it. 🥲
