NGAM Veterans Support Grant

MVTF partnership provides home repairs for Navy veteran Navy veteran Gerald Prestler received life-changing assistance from the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund (MVTF), along with support from Habitat for Humanity of Michigan, Home Depot Foundation and National Guard Association of Michigan.

Meet Lou, a Navy Veteran who served in the 1970's and 80's. Lou had a spine and neck injury that left him with almost complete immobility. He has had incredible family support helping him get in and out of his home until he applied for a Veterans Support Grant. Thanks to the VSG and our partnership with the Stronger Warrior Foundation's Adaptive Warrior program, Lou now has a wheelchair ramp into his home. Unable to work and living on a very limited income, home adaption for accessibility may not have been possible without the help of the Veterans Support Grant.

The NGAM VSG partnership with Habitat for Humanity helped with the rebuild and updates to this veterans home.

2021 was an incredible year for the Veterans Support Grant. Assisting 37 families with home repairs, car payments, light bills, medical needs, and many other needs, the VSG is helping families find financial stability in some very difficult times.

NGAM's Veterans Support Grant partnered with Habitat for Humanity Michigan to completely remodel this Veteran's home. On the outside, the home received siding, windows, doors, and a new roof. The inside had new flooring throughout, appliances, running water, and a handicap accessible bathtub.

The NGAM partnership with Habitat for Humanity allows us to provide up to $4M of repairs to Michigan Veterans Homes over the next 4 years.

A recent storm took the gutters and siding off of this veterans home. Needing repairs and a new door to keep the water out, the Veterans Support Grant was able to partner with Habitat for Humanity Capital Region to fix the veterans home before winter.

A friend and advocate of other Veterans in his community, this Veteran found himself in need of a new roof. The roof was leaking, drafty, and in need of a full repair. The Veterans Support Grant was able to partner with local contractor and provide new life to the Veteran's home.
