As we celebrate 250 years of American history, we’re flipping back the pages of our own history books to honor the occasion.

Starting this week you’ll see a roll-out of a commemorative uniform patch on all of our officers.

Our retro emblem is similar to one worn years ago nearly 40 years ago, adding a a commemorative “America 250” ribbon.

It will be worn on our short sleeved shirts during warm weather.

Our current patch dates back to 1987 - before most of Squad 3 was born.

Here officers Fox, O’Doherty and Burton show off the new style.

Whaddya think?

Thanks to Chief Ken Rutherford - Lansdowne Police and Magda Byrne - Mayor of Lansdowne Borough for their support of this effort.

Thanks also to Philly Express Custom Athletics for getting these on our shoulders in time for the summer!

2026 Acts - The Official Website of the Pennsylvania General Assembly 06/04/2026

Attention all motorists: Paul Miller’s Law goes into effect June 5!

What does that even mean?

Simply put, unless you’re calling 911, any use of interactive electronic handheld devices is now considered a primary offense. If you have a phone in your hand, we can stop you.

Say what?

Effective Friday, the Pennsylvania is motor vehicle code permits police to pull you over and issue a citation if you’re using your phone, tablet, etc. This prohibition includes when stopped at a light or stopped in traffic.

The measure, which was signed into law by Gov. Shapiro last year is punishable by a $50 fine and associated court costs. Its intention is to cut down on distracted driving.

To be clear: talking via Bluetooth through your car speakers is fine.

Pulling over to the side of the road to talk to text while still behind the wheel is perfectly fine too.

(Having earbuds in isn’t a great idea either, but that’s a whole separate issue and just as dangerous an issue as the one this law addresses)

What’s not acceptable is not having two hands on the wheel.

Friday marks the one-year grace and educational period established following the Governor signing the provision into law.

On this rainy Monday, we pause to recognize those who ultimate price in the pursuit and preservation of our liberty.

Memorial Day is for the ones who never made it home to feel the warm embrace of their loved ones.

Whether they took their last breath during wartime or in service to this great nation in a time of peace, their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Indeed, there is no “happy” Memorial Day. We ask you reflect upon today on all those who gave up their tomorrow for your today.

There will be two small ceremonies commemorating the day. The first will be the placement of a wreath at 9 a.m. at our beautiful new Veterans Landing across from the Lansdowne Theater.

Then at 9:30 a.m. two more wreaths will be placed at the two monuments honoring those Lansdowne residents who gave their lives in World War I and World War II at Penn Wood High School.

Both ceremonies are hosted by the amazing patriots at Lansdowne American Legion Post 65. They will be held rain or shine.

Freedom isn’t free. We honor the fallen not just today, but every day.

It’s a bit out of the ordinary for us to make a post like this, but we couldn’t let the day pass without recognizing Travers Food Market on their four decades serving our community.

They’ve been tremendous partners and friends to us here. From hosting Coffee with a Cop to catering retirement and holiday lunches Dave, Donna, their girls and crew have always been there for our staff.

They nourish our stomachs and our souls, providing a friendly face on days when we need it most.

Here’s to many more years for this Lansdowne landmark!

Congrats on 40 years!
