Dimestore Dolls came together after an invitation to form an all girl band for a one-off gig at a Cardigan Christmas party in 2018. Soon Scott Frenchek replaced founding member Donna Volles on the bass, and Chris Whalen joined to pl
ay extra guitars, but the founding women Kelly Buchanan (guitar, vox) , Christy Engel (drums), Mollie Swartz (vox, bass), and Jeanette Stillman (vox) stayed on. They performed cover songs for their first year together, but soon Buchanan began bringing her own songs into rehearsal and the band brought them to life. Now the band plays a healthy mix of covers and originals and are recording an album of all original songs. The group learned that their funny Christmas name of Wooly Mamas was already taken by a different original band! So they opted to go with the established name of Dimestore Dolls. Kelly Buchanan and Donna Volles had both been original Dimestore Dolls members in 2016 (with Liz Fulmer) and it was Chris Whalen who first suggested "Dimestore Dolls" as their name. Dimestore Dolls in its previous incarnation also performed Kelly's original songs. All those reasons seemed like Dimestore Dolls was the perfect fit. Dimestore Dolls stopped performing live during the pandemic, but decided a good project would keep up their morale. That is how they began recording with producer Bobby Gentilo. They hope to release an album of their catchy songs in 2021!
