🐾 BENNY NEEDS A HERO 🐾

Benny is one of those dogs who is impossible not to love.

At 5–6 years old, this handsome, stocky Pitbull has left the puppy chaos behind and is simply looking for someone to share life with. He loves people, loves attention, and wants nothing more than to be part of a family. If you're sitting down, Benny wants to sit with you. If you're walking through the house, Benny wants to come along. He truly just enjoys being with his humans.

Benny does well with other dogs, cats, and children. He is built like a tank and plays like a linebacker, but his intentions are always good. He's a happy, affectionate dog with a goofy personality and a huge heart.

He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, house-trained, and uses a doggy door. He's the total package and has so much to offer a family willing to give him a chance.

We know his breed can sometimes be overlooked, but Benny deserves the same opportunity as any other dog. He is a wonderful companion who is ready to spend his days loving and being loved.

🐾 Meet Dolly, Mack, Teddy 🐾

Last Friday, we were contacted about a group of puppies being surrendered from a property where they had been left outside to fend for themselves among a large number of dogs. They had never experienced human contact and had spent their short lives surviving on their own.

There were originally 8 puppies.

Only 3 made it out.

Thankfully, two of our incredible foster families stepped up immediately to help these babies begin a new chapter. We truly cannot thank our fosters enough. Time and time again, they open their homes, adjust their schedules, lose sleep, and pour their hearts into animals who desperately need help. Without them, stories like this would not have happy endings.

When the puppies arrived, the number of ticks covering them was unreal—we removed hundreds. The smallest gray pup, Mack, was in especially rough shape. He has some skin issues likely caused by the heavy tick infestation, but with proper care, his fur should grow back beautifully. He also needed Sub-Q fluids to help get him back on track.

All three puppies received Nutri-Cal, flea and tick baths, Bravecto, and Liqui-Tinic. Most importantly, they received something they had never known before: love, comfort, safety, and full bellies.

For the past week, they've been settling into their foster homes, learning how to be puppies. They've been playing, snuggling, exploring, and soaking up every bit of attention they can get. The transformation has been incredible to watch.

We believe they are Newfoundland/Weimaraner mixes, although there are likely a few other breeds mixed in there as well. Whatever their heritage may be, one thing is certain—they are wonderful puppies with bright futures ahead of them.

Before they leave our care, they will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, Heartworm tested, and up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations.

💔 Chanel's Story 💔

A few days ago, someone reached out to us about a small Yorkshire Terrier named Chanel who had gone into labor. We were told she was only 2 years old. Her owner was concerned because she didn't have transportation to get Chanel to a veterinarian and did not have the financial means for emergency veterinary care.

We immediately agreed to help.

Within hours, Chanel was in our care and at the veterinarian's office. Upon intake, she was found to be severely dehydrated. The veterinary team quickly examined her and determined she needed an emergency C-section.

During surgery, they discovered there was only one puppy. The puppy was very large and had become lodged in Chanel's birth canal. Tragically, it was not viable. The veterinarians estimated the puppy had likely been stuck for 2-3 days.

Because of the obstruction, Chanel was unable to properly empty her bladder. The resulting complications caused urine to back up and severely affected her kidneys, leading to acute kidney failure and dangerously high toxin levels in her bloodstream.

The surgery itself went well, and everyone involved fought tirelessly for her. One of the veterinarians even took Chanel home overnight to closely monitor her condition. Sadly, despite every effort, Chanel passed away the following day.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible team at Town & Country Animal Clinic. Their staff responded immediately, provided exceptional care, and did everything possible to save her.

The heartbreaking reality is that if Chanel had received veterinary care days earlier, the outcome may have been very different.

Stories like Chanel's are one of the many reasons we advocate so strongly for spaying and neutering. While many people say they want "just one litter," claim it was an "accidental litter," or decide to breed their dog without proper planning, complications can happen quickly and without warning. Difficult births (called dystocia) occur in approximately 5% of dogs, and the risk is even higher in small breeds such as Yorkshire Terriers. Emergency veterinary care is often the difference between life and death.

If you do not have the financial ability to provide emergency veterinary care, please think carefully before breeding or even adopting an animal. A "free" puppy or dog is never truly free. They need vaccinations, preventative care, emergency care, and, most importantly, responsible owners who are prepared for the unexpected.

💔 Nearly a Year Later, Benny Is Still Waiting... 💔

This is the part we don't understand.

Benny has been with us for almost a year, watching other dogs come and go while he continues to wait for someone to give him a chance. Every day he greets people with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart, and every day he gets overlooked.

Benny is a 5–6-year-old Pitbull who loves people more than just about anything. His idea of a perfect day is spending time with his humans, whether that's hanging out on the couch, following you around the house, or simply being wherever you are. He doesn't ask for much—just a family to love.

He's a sturdy boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Benny enjoys playing with other dogs, gets along with cats, and has done well with children. He can be a little exuberant during playtime and sometimes forgets just how strong he is, but it's all part of his goofy, lovable charm.

Benny is also:

🐾 Up to date on vaccinations
🐾 House-trained
🐾 Comfortable using a doggy door
🐾 Reliable in the home with no accidents

The truth is, we hate that Benny has spent so much of his life waiting in a shelter. He deserves a couch, a yard, a family, and a place where he belongs. He deserves to wake up every morning knowing he's home.

At this point, our goal is simply to find the best possible outcome for Benny. Of course we'd love for him to find an adopter, but we would also be open to placement with a reputable rescue that has extensive experience with Pitbulls and can help him find the perfect forever home.

🐾 A Message From Those of Us Living Through Kitten Season 🐾

Every year, people get excited about "kitten season."

And we understand why.

There aren't many things in this world cuter than a tiny kitten. Their little paws, playful personalities, and endless curiosity make it easy to fall in love. But behind every adorable kitten photo is a reality that most people never see.

Right now, shelters, rescues, trappers, foster homes, and animal advocates are drowning in cats and kittens.

Every day, more are born.

Every day, more are abandoned.

Every day, more are surrendered because there are simply too many.

And every "Free Kittens" post adds to the problem unless every single one of those kittens goes to a home that will have them spayed or neutered. Unfortunately, that's often not the case.

This isn't a shelter problem.

This isn't a rescue problem.

This is a people problem.

Too often we hear:
"I didn't want to pay for the surgery."
"I just wanted one litter."
"I thought someone would take them."

But one litter becomes dozens. Dozens become hundreds. Hundreds become thousands.

The sad reality is that many people who allow their pets to have "just one litter" never follow those kittens throughout their lives. They don't know if they were spayed or neutered. They don't know if they stayed in loving homes. They don't know if those kittens went on to have litters of their own.

What we do know is that every year the problem gets worse.

If you don't agree with what we're saying, spend a few months working in a shelter. Sit with the scared kittens that arrived without their mother. Help trap colony after colony because nobody fixed their pets. Watch wonderful, healthy animals wait for homes while more continue to pour through the doors.

It's heartbreaking.

The truth is, we live in a society where animals are too often treated as disposable. When they're inconvenient, they're abandoned. When they have babies, they're given away. When the problem grows, shelters and rescues are expected to fix it.

But we can't rescue our way out of overpopulation.

Prevention is the answer.

Spay. Neuter. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. Be part of the solution.

And to our fellow rescuers, trappers, shelter workers, fosters, transport volunteers, veterinarians, vet staff, and animal advocates: we see you.

We see the late nights, the bottle babies, the heartbreak, the endless phone calls, the fundraising, the trapping in the rain, the tears, and the victories that keep you going.

Some days it feels impossible. Some days it feels like we're losing ground. But every animal helped matters. Every litter prevented matters. Every life saved matters.

Thank you for continuing to fight for the ones who cannot speak for themselves.

🎆 Fireworks Season Is Almost Here — Is Your Dog Ready? 🐾

For many of us, fireworks are a fun part of summer. For our pets, they can be absolutely terrifying.

If your dog struggles with loud noises, now is the time to talk with your veterinarian. Don't wait until the week of the Fourth of July. Every year, veterinary clinics receive a flood of calls from pet owners seeking help for anxious pets, and appointment availability can become limited.

Signs of firework anxiety may include:
🐾 Pacing or restlessness
🐾 Trembling or shaking
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Hiding
🐾 Barking or whining
🐾 Attempting to escape doors, fences, or crates
🐾 Loss of appetite

Many dogs benefit from a plan that is put in place before fireworks begin. Your veterinarian can help determine whether calming supplements, behavior modification techniques, anxiety wraps, pheromone products, or prescription medications may be appropriate for your pet.

It's also important to remember that frightened dogs are more likely to run away. Make sure collars fit properly, ID tags are current, and microchip information is up to date.

The best time to prepare is before the fireworks start—not after your dog is already in a panic.

If your pet has a history of noise anxiety, give your veterinarian a call soon and get ahead of the holiday rush. A little planning now can make a huge difference for your dog's comfort and safety this summer.
