One of the residents at a senior center that I regularly play at got this video of me, totally unprompted, and wanted to send it after the performance - such a kind gesture!

My Way is usually the last song of my set, and it's such a special song. The basic lore is that Paul Anka was challenged by Sinatra to write some things beyond his years, as he was 21 at the time. Sinatra was blown away by this song, and you know the rest from history.

I had such a long and stressful day when I performed here, and barely even got my hair brushed, much less put on makeup on or found a decent outfit. I was exhausted and hot and flustered, and when I showed up everyone was so welcoming and kind and helped me to just really enjoy the hour I had with them. I absolutely love this crowd so much! I have an entire regular group waiting for me every performance. It's so nice.

Honestly, my senior center performances in general are some of my favorite. I talk to them, joke, educate them about the music, and we generally have discussions about which songs they like, which artists they like, etc. It's always such a nice time.

So grateful for this video! I don't post a lot of longer videos, but I know some people request them, so here we go!

As someone who experienced all four grandparents go through dementia, and especially spent a lot of time caring for my maternal grandmother during that time, there's a very special place in my heart for memory care patients, as well as just always having an absolute reverence for seniors. Living history. People that can tell you things that books never would. Wisdom that you otherwise wouldn't know until you were their age.

I'm so proud to have been working on a program specifically for senior living facilities, with the focus on memory care. I come into a performance with a basic setlist, but as I perform take into account the audience, requests, the demographic etc.

I announce each song's title and who was known for writing it or performing it, and encourage people to sing along. I recognize that different facilities may have people that would prefer to listen, or would prefer to interact, and I tailor each individual performance to the group in front of me.
