The purpose of this seal coat process was to harden the wood up, as it was super soft, and to protect the wood from staining due to the black pigments to be used in main river pour. The trick was to avoid the live edge, which would eventually receive an oil finish for that natural feel ππ
The process started by first spreading the epoxy with a plastic card spreader and then using foam brushes to work the epoxy as close to the live edge as possible without going over. Due to all the bug holes and porosities in the wood, some snuck its way onto the edge, so isopropyl alcohol did the trick in cleaning that run off up before it was too late.β³

Appreciate all the love and positivity in yesterdays post! However, I didn't feel the pics did the wood the justice it deserved. So before I start posting the process, I wanted to post an upclose of the detailed figure in these slabs. I just can't get over the character in these slabs and that finish π Stay tuned, plenty more to come on this make!!

This river style table features two mappa burl live edge slabs from , 20L of Chill Ice 2 epoxy, a combination of transparent chill drops and metallics, and last but not least, a custom steel base powdercoated in satin black.
