The Red Rose Transit Authority wants to launch a shared community shuttle program, and our draft list of upcoming projects includes supporting this idea! Called microtransit, residents could use an app or phone call to request being transported within the shuttle’s travel area. In their feasibility study, they identified Leola, Willow Street, and Ephrata as their top areas for this service. Learn more about the RRTA’s plan for microtransit on their website:

Did you know that vehicles create 45% of all smog and 33% of all fine soot and dust in the US? The Lancaster County MPO has been tasked with long term planning to limit the amount of harmful air pollutants that come from vehicles. The current system works on the understanding that idle vehicles and longer trip times produce more pollutants. Reducing traffic bottlenecks not only reduces traffic congestion, it leads to healthier air quality. The Air Quality Conformity Analysis Report details the methodology and results of our upcoming projects list, which conforms to federal targets – by staying within our “emission budget.”

The oldest bridge in the county that is still in use is on our list of upcoming transportation projects! Bitzer's Mill Covered Bridge was built before the invention of the automobile, but continues to serve as a single lane crossing of the Conestoga River. It will be getting improvements to continue to accommodate traffic.

One project on our draft list of upcoming projects is a Bridge Rehabilitation of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge! This bridge connects Columbia and Wrightsville along Route 462. As it is not the highway bridge, it represents the only opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists to travel between the two towns. It currently features a pedestrian sidewalk.

The latest report of bicycle and pedestrian data collected during summer 2025 will be presented at the Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) meeting this Thursday.
In summer of 2026, data collection will return to the first group of sites, where counts were originally conducted in 2023. This ongoing rotation of count sites supports the establishment of countywide trends in bicycle and pedestrian activity.
Permanent counters have also been installed along three county trails; Conewago Recreation Trail, the Northwest River Trail, and the Enola Low Grade Trail, which will soon have a second counter added.
