AMD affects the macula, the part of your retina responsible for sharp, detailed central vision. It is what lets you read, recognize faces, and drive safely.
What increases your risk are age, smoking, UV exposure, family history, and cardiovascular health.
AMD is not curable, but it is manageable when caught early. And modifiable risk factors like UV protection matter more than most people realize.

Summer in Lancaster is beautiful. But for dry eyes, it can be brutal. 😬
Air conditioning, ceiling fans, increased screen time, and outdoor UV exposure all reduce the moisture that keeps your eyes comfortable.
Four things that actually help:
- Stay well hydrated throughout the day
- Use preservative-free artificial tears when needed
- Redirect AC vents away from your face
- Wear wraparound sunglasses when you are outside
Small habits, real relief.

False. Once the clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens, a cataract cannot return.
However, some patients do develop a haze behind the new lens months or even years later. The good news? A quick, painless laser procedure called a YAG capsulotomy can resolve it in minutes.
Modern ophthalmology is quietly remarkable. 👁️

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which sits behind the iris. As the lens clouds over time, light can no longer pass through clearly, leading to blurry vision, increased glare, difficulty driving at night, and fading colors.
Cataracts are a natural part of aging but blurry vision is never something to simply accept.
If things are looking a little hazier than they used to, it may be worth a conversation with an ophthalmologist. 💙

Let that sink in for a moment. 💙
And it doesn't start at 80. An estimated 24.4 million Americans age 40 and older are living with cataracts right now.
Awareness is the first step. Knowing your risk is the second.

Here's something most people don't connect:
Every summer, your eyes absorb UV radiation that accumulates over a lifetime. That cumulative exposure is one of the most well-documented risk factors for cataracts and macular degeneration.
Not all sunglasses offer real protection. Look for lenses rated UV400, which block 100% of UV-A and UV-B rays.
This summer, treat your sunglasses like sunscreen. You wouldn't skip one. Don't skip the other one.

Confidence in your eye doctor matters, especially when a decision as significant as surgery is on the table.
That kind of trust takes time. We're honored to have earned it. 💙
