Had somebody ask me about infectious coryza recently.
They asked if it was okay to sell eggs hatching eggs off of their flock that was exposed to infectious coryza

My answer:
No, you should not hatch or sell hatching eggs from a coryza-infected flock. While Infectious Coryza (Avibacterium\ gallinarum) is not vertically transmitted inside the egg to the chick, the risk of transmission is still incredibly high due to external contamination.
​Why It Is Highly Discouraged
​Eggshell Contamination: The bacteria are heavily shed in nasal discharge and saliva. As hens cough, sneeze, and wipe their faces, they easily contaminate the outside of the eggshells and nesting material.
​Carrier Status: Because recovered birds become lifetime carriers, your breeding flock will permanently shed the bacteria. Bringing new, highly susceptible chicks into that environment guarantees they will catch it.
​NPIP Violation: Selling hatching eggs from a flock actively infected with or carrying coryza violates the biosecurity and disease-control spirit of the NPIP program. It risks spreading a devastating respiratory disease to other clean flocks.
​If you want to save genetics from a prized line, you would need to strictly sanitize the eggs using a professional hatching egg disinfectant dip before bringing them into a completely isolated, biosecure incubator far away from your current flock. However, given the severity of coryza, the safest option for an NPIP breeder is to depopulate, sanitize, and start fresh.
