Refresh Speaker Highlight
Kay Warren cofounded Saddleback Church with her husband, Rick Warren, in Lake Forest, California in 1980. She also cofounded the Initiative for Vulnerable Children with Elizabeth Styffe at Saddleback. After the death of her son, Matthew, who lived with serious mental illness for most of his life, she founded another initiative, Saddleback’s Hope for Mental Health as a way to support individuals and family members of loved ones with mental illness and suicidal ideation. The Initiative also trains others in the faith community how to launch or expand existing mental health ministries.

Kay is a board member of the National Action Alliance for Su***de Prevention and is active in mental health/suicide prevention efforts in Orange County, Ca. Kay is the author of Sacred Privilege: Your Life and Ministry as a Pastor’s Wife, Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough, Say Yes to God: A Call to Courageous Surrender, and coauthor of Foundations, a popular systematic theology course used by churches worldwide. Her children are Amy and Josh, and Matthew (who is in heaven), and she has five grandchildren.

Lynne is well entrenched in the story of adoption. She is an adult adoptee that adopted internationally as a single woman over 16 years ago. After marrying, she and her husband fostered and then recently adopted a sibling set from the foster care system. Having done her master’s thesis and practice on adoption issues, she is passionate about equipping parents for the journey. Lynne serves on staff as the missions pastor at Overlake Christian Church in WA, participating with trauma care and healing for marginalized groups around the world. She loves traveling, driving her Jeep and hanging with her family. .ellisgray

Maria is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked with kids from hard places for the past 22 years, currently working as a School Counselor in a beautiful inner city community in Phoenix Arizona. Maria has worked in three different states and six different schools. Maria is a sought after trauma and diversity trainer. In 2008 Maria became a TBRI trained practitioner through the Dr. Karyn Purvis Institute, and in 2022 she received a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate through Cornell University. Maria also has a Masters in clinical Social Work from Rutgers University and a Bachelors in Psychology from Trinity Western University. She has authored two children’s books: “Be Different & Be Kind, A Story About Diversity” & “Hope.” Maria calls herself a precious jewels mamma as she & her husband Sam (an adult adoptee) have 11 jewels, 9 adopted and 2 biological. ​​
