Black Future in Art is a living cultural platform amplifying Black creativity, legacy, and forward vision.

Through curated exhibitions and community dialogue, it centers artists not as footnotes to history, but as architects of what comes next.

In this work, 13-year-old Milo invites us beyond the surface and into the interior — into the place where truth lives. As I stood with this piece, I felt a quiet challenge: go to the core, examine yourself, and be honest about what you find. That is the power of young vision — it doesn’t decorate, it reveals.

At NoBo Gallery, we are honored to present the work of Kevin Johnson and Joseph H. Graves Jr.

Kevin’s work emerges from a life of military service — steady, disciplined, grounded in duty.

Joseph stands at the intersection of cowboy and classroom. His art honors the legacy of Black cowboys — riders and builders of the West whose stories deserve light — while his work as an educator ensures those stories continue forward.

This is an exhibition about history, responsibility, and the beauty of lives lived with purpose.

THIS IS IT. OPENING NIGHT

02/05/2026

LET TALK ABOUT YOUR INHERITANCE OF EXCELLENCE.

Inside the spiral script of us,
coiled tight in quiet code,
lives a memory older than doubt—
a knowing that builds,
that imagines,
that refuses smallness.

Even when pressure presses hard,
even when voices try to rename us
into something lesser,
excellence does not forget its way home.

It rises—
in the hands that design tomorrow,
in the minds that bend problems into possibility,
in the hearts that dream in colors
no erasure can dull.

We are the echo of first creators,
the spark that studies the dark
and still invents light.

Suppress it, bury it,
write laws against it—
excellence is stubborn like breath.

It will surface.
It will speak.
It will build worlds again
through us.

WHAT GOING ON?

These paintings are not responses. They do not explain or defend. They stand in alignment, shaped by a life lived in truth rather than approval. Excellence appears not as achievement, but as presence — steady, embodied, and whole.

Rooted in five years of Black Future in Art across Boulder County, this solo exhibition turns inward, returning to the artist’s source. What remains is clarity: a practice guided by knowing rather than fear.
