We had to close the rescue at the end of 2023 because we could no longer sustain it financially. 😪

I haven’t been making posts since we officially “shut down” the rescue but I really should since we haven’t stopped working in the rescue world, just operating under our own name! Therefore I’ve decided I’m going to keep you guys updated on what’s been going on in the Pineapple Paws world while working with other rescues and shelters 😁 Stay tuned…

In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful pic of Mama that her mom sent me recently! This beautiful girl will always have my heart but she’s been living her best life with her NY family for over 2 years now!! 🩵

Over 40 yrs ago Bob Barker was telling people to spay & neuter their pets at the end of every episode of The Price is Right, which I know we ALL watched at some point. And somehow we still have an overpopulation crisis where cats and dogs are euthanized daily in shelters due to lack of space 😢. Something has to change!

People really need to understand that welcoming an adult dog into your home and family dynamic is a process.

Great video for fosters or new dogs. Take the time, go slow, set everyone up for success. It works.

"🐾 How I Safely Integrated My Adult Foster 🐾

It’s so important to take into account dogs body language and not rushing dogs into unrealistic expectations when they first enter a new home! Dogs can act completely different when feeling insecure or fearful. The first day that I got Eclair, she actually growled and reacted at Wally through the gate. if I would’ve introduced them on the first night, it probably would not have gone well. This very slow introduction single-handedly allowed me to introduce them in a way that was safe for both dogs and kept them both under threshold and feeling comfortable.

Working in rescue and volunteering at the shelter we so often see dogs returned because they “didn’t get along with the family dog “after being there for only a few days. This is not to say that some dogs just prefer to be only dogs, or may not get along with other dogs ever, but it is not realistic to expect dogs to act perfectly when they are coming to a new home. Patience and grace is so key particularly with adult dogs and allowing them to decompress and take in their new environment in a calm and safe way is so important.

I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback that people enjoyed seeing how I structured welcoming eclair into my home and so hopefully this is helpful!

Scooby (Porkchop when he was here with us) still has a strong “concerned face” game, just like when he was a puppy! 😂
