Even with the best intentions, people make mistakes. In the case of this next story, I have no idea how this file changed hands as many times as it did without someone noticing the blatant discrepancies in the information on which the insurance company was basing its valuation.

It really only took ONE conversation with the owner of this 1996 E350 to figure out that the ball had not only been dropped initially by the insurance company, but they appeared to be kicking the ball down the street.

The insurance company was basing its value on the idea that this was a 1996 E350 2WD Cargo Van. No one bothered to actually inspect the vehicle to discover that in reality, this was a 4 Wheel Drive, Waldoch Conversion Van...

The insurance-appointed appraiser worked off the information given to them by the insurance company and put a value on it once again that was not consistent with the facts. They kept putting a value of only $7,800 on this van.

In the end, I was able to educate, inform and succeed in proving the ongoing improper valuation from both the insurance company and their appointed appraiser. I nearly doubled the settlement amount from the initial settlement offer and put that money back into the pocket of this vehicle owner where it belonged.

I was contacted in regards to providing an Inspection and Fair Market Valuation on this 2017 F150. The truck was being offered for sale by the County Sheriff's office in an auction format.

Upon inspection I found body/paint damage, a stained and partially flooded interior, a cracked windshield, and the worst part, the engine had a bad "KNOCK" when idling.

Unfortunately, this truck required more money to fix than it would be worth in the end.

So why would you spend money to have a 2-year-old, low mileage CPO (Certified Pre Owned) Vehicle inspected before you buy?? Because it is a -BUYER BEWARE world we live in, and spending less than 1% of the total purchase price having independent eyes on the job is good insurance on your purchase.

In the case of this 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo being sold by a dealership in South Florida, the buyer told me that he wasn't comfortable buying it sight unseen without having someone check it over for any issues. This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W30 Convertible may have been one of the most overlooked cars at Mecum Kissimmee 2023. Why do I say that? This was 1 of only 110 produced, Numbers Matching, 1 of 10 born with Factory AC, and possibly one of the earliest W-30 Convertibles built that year.

I personally verified the numbers matching status and went top to bottom on this car verifying the condition and validity of the claims made. I appraised this car to have a Fair Market Value of $140,000, taking into consideration the rarity and condition. Unfortunately, it did not sell, the bidding stalled out at $120K. Why? Who knows... the bidding public can be an odd and erratic group at times... Don't believe me?!?!

This 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge was valued at $560,000 as per Hagerty price guides prior to the Mecum Kissimmee 2023 Auctions. It sold for a whopping $ 1.1 million!!! Yet another moment when I almost fall out of my chair at the hammer price!

Either way, the muscle car market is strong.

When I first walked up to this 2020 Dodge Durango, I thought to myself, "This doesn't LOOK to be a Total Loss"... but then I opened the door and continued the inspection throughout the SUV. My first impression upon approach was WRONG!!!

Let's face the facts, Diminished Value Appraisal reports can be subjective and many times will vary from appraiser to appraiser.

But when the DV Appraisal report is based on facts and follows an accepted set of guidelines, it is hard to argue with facts. It is also hard to argue the fact that your vehicle will be worth LESS post-accident than it was pre-accident.
