Meet our newest Youth Chamber Music Program coach, Faith Foster.

Faith Foster is a versatile musician with an equal passion for performance and education. She has shared this passion as music director for multiple community ensembles and award winning youth orchestras as well as guest conducting with professional symphonies and ballet companies. As a violist and violinist, Faith has performed internationally as a chamber musician, touring with an experimental ensemble in England, Scotland and New Zealand. Her performances represent a wide variety of genres, from staples such as string quartets by Beethoven and Shostakovic to premieres by living composers with elements such as electronics. She holds a DMA in orchestral conducting, conferred by the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, where she studied with Murry Sidlin and Simeone Tartaglione. Notable conducting engagements include a concert with the European American Musical Alliance Chorale, a fully staged production of La Boheme with the CUA opera department. and two world premieres with the American Modern Ensemble in New York.

Paul Evans is the principal tubist of Symphony Tacoma, a position he has held since 2000. An active performer and educator, he has previously taught tuba performance at Boise State University and Pacific Lutheran University. Evans is a regular substitute with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra and frequently performs with Tacoma Opera and other regional ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest

Introducing Judson Scott, who will be performing with Valhalla Brass at the Kirkland Arts Center Gallery on Saturday, February 21st, at 7:30 PM.

Judson Scott holds degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College (BM ‘82, cm laude),New England Conservatory (MM ‘85) and the University of Washington (DMA ‘03). Formerly a member of L’Orchesta Filharmonica de la Ciudad de Mexico, he currently holds positions in the Northwest Sinfonietta and the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra. He is trumpet instructor at the University of Puget Sound and artistic director of Brass Band Northwest. Of his performance with the Northwest Sinfonietta, Jen Graves of the News Tribune wrote simply, “Judson Scott, trumpet, performed brilliantly throughout.” At home with a wide variety of styles, Dr. Scott’s experience ranges from playing lead in West Side Story to performing Bach’s Magnificat on a valveless natural trumpet. He has performed with numerous ensembles including the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Opera Company, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the 5th Avenue Theater, the Opera Company of Boston, and the symphony orchestras of Spokane, Springfield (MA), New Hampshire, Portland (ME), Rhode Island and Virginia, and has backed artists as diverse as Lynn Harell, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Richard Stolzman, Ray Charles, Doc Severenson and the rock groups Cheap Trick and the Moody Blues.

Keith Winkle is a well established trombonist in the Seattle area and enjoys playing with symphony orchestras, pit orchestras and also chamber music like Valhalla Brass!Highlights of 2024 include Pagliacci with Seattle Opera, Mary Poppins at the 5th Ave Theater, Beautiful at Village Theatre, sitting in with the 8 Bit Big Band and various performances with Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet orchestra, Symphony Tacoma and Auburn Symphony. Keith has degrees from Central Washington University and the University of North Texas and his teachers include Larry Gookin and Vern Kagarice.

Introducing Blake Yarbrough of Valhalla Brass!

Blake Yarbrough is a horn player, software engineer, and nonprofit leader. After receiving a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University and a Master of Music from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, he spent several years freelancing in the Dallas, TX
area before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 2011. He performed as part of the U.S. Fleet Forces Band in Norfolk, VA then transferred to Navy Band Northwest in 2013. As a nonprofit leader, he co-founded the Poulsbo Community Orchestra and currently serves on the Roxy Bremerton Foundation board of directors. After the Navy, he became a software engineer for Microsoft and
continues to play with orchestras and chamber ensembles in the Pacific Northwest.

Introducing Gabriel Palmer of Valhalla Brass!

Trumpet player Gabriel Palmer, a native of Chico, California, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Northwestern University and is pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Washington. Formerly a member of Symphony Tacoma, Mr. Palmer performs
regularly with the Seattle Symphony, the Seattle Opera orchestra, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet orchestra. He has also performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, and the 5th Ave Theatre orchestra. He has worked extensively as a coach with the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra as well as guest teaching with the Seattle Youth
Symphony Orchestra. While at the University of Washington, Mr. Palmer was a featured soloist with the Seattle Symphony, performing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto under the baton of Ludovic Morlot. Mr. Palmer has performed with artists such as Moby, Evanescence, The
Temptations, Amos Lee and the Irish Tenors, and has recorded music for commercials, video games, and movie soundtracks. He currently is the director of bands at Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale, Wa.

Why Collaborative Musicians’ Project?

The mission of the Collaborative Musicians' Project is to promote accessible and consistent ensemble education and performance opportunities for musicians of all levels. A facet of the Project is our Youth Ensemble and School Support programs, designed to help serious young musicians develop important skills for successful participation in live chamber ensembles. Alongside the Youth Ensemble and School Support programs, we will also promote creative professional collaborations and side-by-side performances.

Collaborative Musicians’ Project is a registered 501(c)3 organization.
