Eastside Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is raising money for Black Coffee Northwest. Black Coffee NW has been repeatedly vandalized since their opening - from arson to shattered windows. In this week alone, two accounts accounts of vandalism have occurred leaving multiple windows shattered.
Black Coffee NW is no ordinary cafe - it is a community hub that celebrates Black culture, promotes/sells Black-owned products, provides internships and barista training, hosts after-school study hours and 'coffee chats' about current events. Black Coffee NW is an integral part of our community.
Our goal is to raise $1000 for Black Coffee Northwest.
Please join us in supporting this locally owned Black business and community center in Shoreline. We must come together to stand up against hate and these acts of violence.
Learn more about and other ways to support Black Coffee NW here - http://www.blackcoffeenw.com/about-us.html

You all are incredible! We have reached our original goal of raising $1,000 for Nikayla. Let’s keep going - our new goal is to raise $2,000!
As a community, we need to come together and support local BIPOC activists, like Nikayla, who are putting in the work to educate, mobilize, and lead us against racial injustice on the eastside.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Please share and continue to support Nikayla’s work!

A Day to Learn: Listen to, Learn from, and Amplify Local Black Voices
At this event, we learned a lot about Kirklands history of racism as well as heard personal stories of racism experienced by our Black community members. It is clear that our community has actively harmed BIPOC. So what are we going to do about it?
Let’s commit to doing anti-racist work in our own community every single day.
Let’s be accomplices. Let’s join the inter-generational fight for justice. Let’s use our white privilege to protect our BIPOC community members. Let’s learn from Black feminism. Let’s hold ourselves and others accountable.
Kirkland, as well as the rest of the eastside, must do better.
Thank you to for hosting, speaking, and putting this event together. And thank you to the rest of the speakers and organizers!
Swipe to see the list of speakers and please Venmo them if you have the means. Our Black community members should not be teaching us for free.
