And that’s a wrap. 2nd annual Hobbies not Habits is complete. It was great to see the kiddos come and play with the robot and ask questions. Thank you Boys and Girls Club for providing lunch and a platform for us to spread the word of FIRST and Team 60! It was great to see and interact with FTC Team 14436 Roaring Robotics and thank some of their team members for helping mentor with us at our LEGO Camp again this year! Always great to run into alumni Athena also!

One last post about camp because without THESE young adults, we couldn’t make Team 60’s FLL Camp successful! This year we did something new and let some of the older PM campers come in during the AM session and help mentor the younger kids. Between these kiddos, KAHS Roaring Robotics members, Team 60 members and a few other friends, camp was a huge success this year! We Team 60 mentors oversee the camp and take care of back office stuff, but these kiddos, they make it happen and fun for the campers year after year!

KAHS Roaring Robotics FTC Team 14436 - we truly couldn’t pull this off without the help of your team members! These young adults come in not knowing anything about the new game and help mentor the campers. They are always patient with the kids and come in with smiles on their faces and ready to assist with whatever is needed. Parents and admin from Kingman Academy, you should be proud of these young adults! Thank you for sharing them with us and allowing them to be a part of our FLL camp each year!

A big thanks to our very own Team 60 members! These brilliant minds come up with a theme, create a game, design the game board, come up with the rules and all the pieces that go on the board for each year’s camp. All of this happens within a very short timespan (usually 5 or 6 meetings) as we are just coming off of the end of our build season along with the end of school and whatever community service events they are helping out at. So very proud and thankful for these Team 60 kids and all they do!

Watching all these young adults interact with each other and the campers is inspiring! We as adults don’t always open up and work well with others we don’t know, but these students make it look so effortless. Thank you for all you do and keep being great human beings!

Had to make a separate post for this part of yesterday’s events at camp. We love when alumni and their parents stop back in or help with whatever we have going on (we have THE BEST parents and alumni). Nina got us yesterday! She text us saying she found us a judge for competition and he’d be there when we needed him. Never in a million years did we expect Robert to come walking in! Great surprise Nina and Robert! Robert fell right back into Team 60 mode, working with the other mentors in judging and competing against the campers! Robert is on his last year at Embry Riddle where he is getting his aeronautical engineering degree and playing golf. Please stop by any time Robert, you are always welcome back at your Team 60 home!

Thank you Nina for all you have done and continue to do for Team 60! We know we can always count on your support of what we do! It is always great to catch up with you on what the kids (well, actually young adults now) are doing and talking with you. On a side note, thank you for the test drive! You are truly the best! We love you Nina!

PM Competition Day was such a blast! Hanging with these campers has been such a fun time all week. Watching them jump right in on day one and start programming and doing research, meeting new friends, battling through programming issues, lost programs and finally getting that one program to work was as much of a win for us mentors as it was for them. Friends and families came to support and watch their campers compete in robot judging, core values, presentations, and actual robot matches (some even against the mentor’s robot) followed by awards. Congrats to all the campers on all their failures (these are just as important) and successes! Please remember how much you enjoyed this week and STEM itself, and if you are interested in seeing what Team 60 is all about, stop in and check out our shop sometime! Keep that fire in your bellies for STEM, there‘s endless possibilities awaiting you in your future!

These campers have been a blast to hang with all week and watch them learn, meet new friends, show off what they learned and compete with the robots they built and programmed. Friends and families came to watch the campers compete in robot judging, core values, presentations, and actual robot matches followed by awards. Congrats to all the campers and hope to see you next year! Keep loving STEM!
