June 20 commemorates the anniversary of the bald eagle’s selection as our national symbol on the Great Seal in 1782. Today, it serves as a reminder of the bald eagle’s status as a conservation success story and celebrates the eagle’s triumphant return from near extinction. Northwestern Regional Libraries have many materials relating to our national bird. We’re so much more than books!
On July 12, USPS First-Class Mail Forever stamps will increase by 4 cents to $0.82 (up from $0.78)

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the end of slavery. Its name is a mash-up of “June” and “nineteenth,” as it is celebrated on the anniversary of June 19, 1865. As the American Civil War ended, Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. Find out more about the Emancipation Proclamation and Juneteenth at your local branch of the Northwestern Regional Library. Find out how we’re here for YOU!
