Intense, overwhelming emotions can spiral into a mental health crisis or cause triggers with substance use. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) places an importance on learning skills before they escalate. DBT TIPP skill, T for temperature. Instead of fighting the anxiety or craving, shift your focus. Hold something cold. Describe the physical sensation to yourself. By anchoring yourself to this safe physical feeling you soothe the central nervous system.

When a individual thinks “nobody wants responsibility for this situation” he is realizing that neither version of himself wants to do the actual work to help his situation. “ Internal and external ambiguity” . Take that first step. Balance therapy and work.

When an individual is in recovery they have most likely heard of HALT( hungry, angry, lonely and tired) sleep and rest is very important to combat these areas. How to wake up feeling less tired.

DBT Skill: A regulated nervous system is not always calm…nor is it full of highs and lows, but it is being able to ride the wave of stress and return to balance. “ Recovery doesn’t mean that you’ll never be angry, anxious or sad.
