Happy 46th Independence Day Dominica 🇩🇲‼️
Geologically speaking, Dominica is one of the youngest islands in the Caribbean chain. It is a spry 26 million years old, still actively evolving with continuous geothermal activity.
Dominica is a vibrant tapestry of European and African cultures, with the Caribbean’s only remaining population of pre-Columbian Carib Indians properly known as the “Kalinago.”
November 3, 1978, stands out as a pivotal moment in Dominica’s timeline as it marks the day this island achieved its Independence, concluding 195 years of British colonial governance.
This year in 2024, the independence theme is: “Péyi Nou, Kado Nou” or “Our Country, Our Gift”, which is a reminder of the privilege and responsibility everyone holds in cherishing and shaping the beautiful “Nature Isle of the Caribbean.”
Independence festivities celebrate Creole (“Kweyol”) music, dance, dress, and cuisine. This yearly season of cultural activities lasts up to 4 weeks.

Happy National “Creole Heritage Month”‼️
Creole Heritage Month is celebrated in October to honor and educate people about Creole culture and language.
Creole is a spoken language in the Caribbean and Louisiana. It is taken from French and mixed with the native tongue, which can vary from country to country.
In many regions of the world, Louisiana Creoles are generally known as people of color with a mixed ethnicity from a French, Spanish, Black, and or Native American heritage. Historically, many Black people brought to the Louisiana came from the West Indies, which is why the occasion is also celebrated there.
October 28th is “International Creole Day” as proclaimed by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Every year since 1983, this day has been an opportunity to celebrate the Creole language and culture across countries and communities.
In Dominica 🇩🇲 “Jounen Kwéyòl” (Creole Day) is observed on the last Friday in October. In Saint Lucia 🇱🇨 this day is observed on the last Sunday of October.
