Keyport Princess

Sailed all weekend. Went out in the ocean today and had good action all day with a boat limit of sea bass and a lot of short fluke with some keepers. We had a 100 plus shorts. The weather and NE wind will keeps us at the dock for most of the week. I am hopeful that God will let us sail one more time for fluke on Friday but we will see.
We have the boat in a safe place till the wind passes and look forward to get back out. We will be starting to fish for porgies and sea bass. 10 sea bass starting this week.

As many of you know, running a commercial fishing vessel takes a tremendous amount of fuel, and this season has been one of the toughest we’ve ever faced. Our local waters have been on the slower side, especially throughout fluke season, forcing us to make longer runs out to the ocean just to be on the fish. Running those extra miles means significantly higher fuel burn, and with prices off the truck getting closer and closer to $6 a gallon on top of light turnouts of 8 to 12 people, we haven't made money in a while. The reality is that we’ve been taking a loss on almost every single trip recently.

To help the Keyport Princess stay afloat for the rest of the season, we are implementing a $10 fuel surcharge starting immediately. We want to be completely honest with you even with this surcharge, it still might not be enough. It simply helps us get a little bit closer to covering our basic expenses so we can keep turning the engines. Raising prices is the absolute last thing we want to do, but we love this boat, this community, and taking our community out fishing!

This will bring our prices up to $100 for our normal 7-Hour Daily trips, still right in line with most of the fleet on pricing. With $20 rod rental and $10 pool, a typical day of fishing will probably run you around $160 if you figure in the mate's tip definitely much more than what we used to see years back, but that's the way it's going.
