What are those reflectivities on the KBYX radar? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? No, it is actually migrating birds heading south. The area circled in orange are the migrating birds moving southward while showers and thunderstorms are evident over the far southeastern Gulf of Mexico. You can see the birds moving on our radar loop: http://radar.weather.gov/radar_lite.php?rid=byx&product=NCR&loop=yes
Our radar is showing the velocities of the migrating birds moving at a fast clip of around 25 knots.
