The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency in the Florida Keys.
The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement service to all of the Florida Keys, which include approximately 112 miles of islands branching off the southern tip of Florida. The main highway, U.S. 1 runs from Florida City to Key West, and in that span, there are 45 bridges connecting the islands. A 62-year-old man from Germany died on May 30, 2026, after being pulled from the water unconscious while snorkeling at the Grecian Rocks off Key Largo, Florida.
Jurgen Peter Wolz was observed unresponsive in the water at approximately 1:30 p.m. while snorkeling in the water with a commercial snorkeling company. CPR began immediately. Rescue crews met the vessel at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park where Wolz was pronounced dead.
Foul play does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
Autopsy results are pending.

Islamorada Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez was on patrol near the Channel Two Bridge at Mile Marker 72 at approximately 8:23 a.m. on May 30, 2026, when he observed Kim Jonathan Hunter, 43, of Homestead, Florida, fishing and in possession of an undersized mutton snapper. Hunter was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation.

Lower Keys Capt. David Smith, Lt. Donny Barrios, and Key West Airport Lt. Linda Mixon report more than 360 pounds of trash was removed during their Friday clean up along Mile Marker 7! Most of that trash was from unsecured loads so big reminder: Secure what's in your vehicle! And a big shout out to all the NAS Key West personnel who helped out!

Sheriff Rick Ramsay presented Driftwood Pizza in Marathon, Florida, with a Certificate of Appreciation for their continued support of the Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement!
A 56-year-old Cudjoe Key, Florida man was arrested on May 28, 2026, for murder in the death of his wife: 62-year-old Lynne Alane Shadduck.
She was found unconscious on a hallway floor with injuries to her face, head, and hands at approximately 5:51 a.m. on Maracaibo Lane.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified after her husband, Bradly Shawn Shadduck, went to a neighbor’s residence wrapped in a blanket or towel but otherwise naked, and asked them to call 911 as there was “blood everywhere.”
The interior of the Shadduck residence was found in disarray with blood in multiple areas.
Lynne Shadduck was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island where she was later pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing. Autopsy results are pending.
“There is no threat to the public at this time” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay, who also responded to the scene.
Shadduck was booked into jail on Thursday.
