A 20-year-old Miami, Florida man was arrested on Sept. 21, 2026, for stealing more than $6,000 from an Upper Keys construction business.

Rico Jermaine Ivery was charged with grand theft, forgery, and counterfeiting.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating in 2022 after the business reported two fraudulent checks were made, one for $2,894 and another for $3,278. Both checks contained the business’ name and were forged. Detectives worked with two banks and found both checks were deposited into Ivery’s personal accounts.

Warrants were obtained for Ivery’s arrest and he was booked into jail on Monday.

A 17-year-old Key West, Florida male with a previous criminal history that includes grand theft auto was arrested on Sept. 20, 2026, after stealing a car again.

Cristian Yarian Alvarez was charged with grand theft auto and driving without a license.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped a black Ford Fusion at Mile Marker 7 at approximately 10 p.m. for not having any rear lights activated. Alvarez was the driver. Alvarez did not have a license and couldn’t provide registration. Contact was made with the owner in Key West, who was unaware his vehicle was taken. The victim arrived and took ownership of the vehicle.

A 19-year-old and 15-year-old, both male, were also in the vehicle and were not arrested. They stated Alvarez picked them up on Duval Street and were unaware the vehicle was stolen.

Alvarez was taken to jail.

Sexual Predator Notification

As required by Florida law, the Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public of a sexual predator living in Monroe County, Florida.

Robert Allen Brophy Jr., 68, has registered a local address as 56200 Overseas Highway Marathon, Florida, 33050.

Brophy was convicted in 2003 in Monroe County, Florida.
