🇺🇸 WHERE WAS I ON 9/11? 🇺🇸

I remember that morning like it was yesterday.

I was in 11th grade, getting ready for school. I had just put my hair up in the bun I always wore when the first plane hit the North Tower.

My first thought was, “What du***ss would fly a plane into THAT building?”

It never crossed my mind that America was under attack. I was young. I was naive. Something like that happening on American soil wasn't even a possibility in my mind.

By the time I got to school, the second plane had hit.

That's when everything changed.

It felt like time stood still.

There wasn't really "school" that day—or the whole week. TVs were on everywhere, tuned to ABC and whatever stations had the latest information. We watched history unfold from our classrooms infront of our very eyes. We talked about what was happening and what we would do if somehow the danger came closer to home.

Teachers were somber. Some were crying. Students were crying. Our counselor went from classroom to classroom throughout the day, asking if anyone needed someone to talk to.

And then, when it seemed like things couldn't possibly get worse, we began seeing people trapped in the towers falling or jumping from the buildings.

It was horrifying.

Then the South Tower collapsed.

I remember the feeling in the room. It was almost as if everyone held their breath at once. We knew there were still people inside—innocent people, firefighters, police officers and other first responders trying desperately to save lives.

And suddenly, so many of them were gone.

Just like that. Their lives extinguish in a matter of seconds.

When I finally went home, I remember going to bed. I was emotionally exhausted. I didn't want to watch tv anymore. I didn't want to hear anymore. It was simply too much for my teenage mind to process.

Years later, Aaron and I traveled to New York during one of his work trips, and we visited the 9/11 Memorial.

I don't know that words can adequately describe that place.

There is a heaviness there that you can feel. Standing where those towers once stood and seeing name after name after name makes everything you watched on television all those years ago suddenly feel incredibly real.

The first inscription that caught my attention was a woman whose name was followed by the words "and her unborn child."

I lost it.

Those weren't numbers.

They weren't statistics.

They were mothers. Fathers. Husbands. Wives. Sons. Daughters. Friends. Coworkers. First responders. People who woke up that morning expecting it to be another ordinary Tuesday—and never came home.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit New York City, please take the time to visit the 9/11 Memorial and pay your respects.

Today, I remember the nearly 3,000 lives taken on September 11, 2001. I remember the first responders who ran toward unimaginable danger while everyone else was desperately trying to escape. And I remain grateful to the men and women who have served and continue to serve this country.

So, We Were Packing Up In Orlando at our holtel & getting ready to head to Destin FL (To visit my hubbys parents) when my husband took some of our Luggage down to the car. On his way back up, he stopped and grabbed us some breakfast.

Keep in mind—we’re staying on the FOURTH FLOOR of the hotel.

The elevator doors open, he looks down at the floor and says, “Hmm…someone left a shoestring.” 😂

It was a BABY YELLOW RAT SNAKE!

Now here’s the part that has me completely baffled: not only was this little guy INSIDE THE HOTEL, but he somehow made it FOUR STORIES UP! 🤯🐍

How he managed to get that far into the hotel—or how nobody noticed him before now—is beyond me!

But seriously…WHY DOES THIS ONLY HAPPEN TO US?! 😂

My husband and I have developed quite the reputation for finding reptiles in the strangest, most unexpected, and sometimes completely WRONG places. Apparently, even while traveling, the reptiles still manage to find US. 🤣🐍

At this point, I’m convinced we don’t find reptiles…

A much more appropriate place for this little one than the fourth floor of a hotel! 😂🐍

The Yellow Rat Snake is native to Florida, so after safely removing the little visitor from the hotel, my husband relocated it outside near the hotel’s large pond, where there is plenty of surrounding grass and wooded habitat. 🐍🌿

A hard truth for NEW reptile keepers.

You’re not ready to breed the animal you just got. Period. Full stop.
