đFreediving Class - May 16 & 17đ

Many of you have been asking. Yes, I am still teaching Freediving coursesđ And listening to my body every step of the way. The class is slightly different nowadays. I am fortunate to have another instructor who joins in to assist and share the dive load with me. We take turns diving with the students because my recovery time has increased.
Iâll post more about this topic. I have had so many questions regarding âFreediving during Pregnancyâ but for now, Iâll just say that the wetsuit struggle has been real. đ
Dry land training is critical. There are benefits from both for little sq**rt when done carefully and correctly.
My doctors have been fully supportive of me continuing but this is not the case for everyone. So please consult with your doctor if youâre thinking about Freediving during pregnancy. Like any intense physical activity, Do not try to start doing this while pregnant if youâve never done it before.

Words are hard to find as our community grieves the loss of a beautiful soul, Jocelyn Brown. A devoted mama. A talented diver. A light in this community. Gone because a boat operator ignored a dive flag displayed less than 75 feet away. That is not an accident. That is negligence. đ
Her dive buddy survived (he said he shouldnât have) and did everything humanly possible to get her to shore. He witnessed a horror no one should ever have to experience. Earlier that same day, he said that Jocelyn had shot a grouper and had a beautiful moment with a sea turtle. She was exactly where she loved to be.
An obvious issue that is apparent throughout the state of Florida is that boater competency is extremely lacking. I personally have almost been ran over countless times. Boater education needs to be taken seriously, by rental companies, by law makers, and by every single person who gets behind the wheel of a vessel. Dive flags exist for a reason. Know the laws. Respect the flag. It costs nothing to slow down. It costs everything when you donât. đ€

Last day of my 2nd trimester and what a way to spend the day! Today was the most epic Level 1 class of my career! Thank you
Todayâs Level 1 class was unlike anything Iâve experienced as an instructor. Three scalloped hammers joined us in the water, a wahoo made an appearance, the mahi and silkies drifted with us on our FAD (lol) for over an hour⊠and then the dolphins showed up. One was a baby, the pod swam over to say hi. Little sq**rt had an epic day at the aquarium!
A huge thank you to Jorge for assisting! I couldnât have done it without you!

It was fun celebrating Easter weekend with you all! We had a good time! Unfortunately the open water session had to get rescheduled last minute due to weather. I canât wait to see you all soon! đ«¶đđ
Todayâs Level 1 class was one for the books âš
We had absolutely incredible conditions, calm water, strong dives, and a beautiful day. The ocean was alive in the best way.
And then we found out later that evening that we were line diving just 0.3 miles away from a great white shark âencounterâ.
Perspective is everything. The ocean is wild, powerful, and deeply humbling. Thatâs exactly why we train the way we do. Safety, awareness, and respect always come first.
Overall, the diving was amazing. Confident dives, beautiful drops, and another reminder that when you enter the ocean, you are a guest.
Grateful. Grounded. And always respectful of whatâs beneath us.đ€
âIn freediving, proper kicking technique improves efficiency.â
Strong legs and flexibility are both equally important and crucial for good freediving form.
When your legs are strong, you can kick long fins using muscles NOT POOR TECHNIQUE. Long fins have a large surface area which requires a lot of muscle strength to kick properly. You can keep your kicks powered from the hips, even, slow, relaxed, and consistent; even when you start to get tired. Without enough strength, technique is poor or breaks down under fatigue which includes:
- Knee bend
- Bicycle kicks or stomping kicks
- Toes not pointed or flat feet
- Kicks primarily in front or behind the diver
But strength alone isnât enough. Mobility is just as important.
If your hips, hamstrings, or ankles are tight, the fins canât stay aligned with your body. Thatâs when we see poor kicking technique. This can raise oxygen use.
If youâre strong but tight, one side can often dominate - front, back, left, or right. That causes uneven kicks, zig-zagging, and extra work for your stabilizing muscles.
If youâre flexible but weak, the legs lose control & the knees or ankles collapse, the fin response is delayed, and cramps are more likely.
The goal is relaxed strength with mobile joints.
Power should come from the hips, the knees stay soft, and the ankles stay loose but controlled. When strength and mobility are balanced, the fins track streamline, movement is quiet, and you use less oxygen.
Thatâs why I focus not just on âkicking better,â but on building strong, mobile legs. A consistent dry land program of strengthening and stretching consistently will improve your diving far more than trying to force technique in the water.
Every review reflects a shared dive, a moment of trust, and a student pushing past their limits. Iâm grateful for every person who chooses to train with me #đ«¶đ.
